Hi guys and gals,
I am not trying to be funny, but is it possible to breed a blue mottle or tiger grizzled? If so, i would love to see a picture of one?

Ray,
I got one of those too. He is ten years old.
George,
As far as the matting; don't worry about color and spread. If they both meet your criteria for stock then breed them, what the hell can be bad about that?

If I'm not mistaken, Tiger Grizzle/Mottle is a dominate mutation and you need one to breed another one. Once you have one, if you breed it to a self, you will get good Tiger Grizzle/Mottle markings.

Oooohhhh... I like that one! White tips on a black mottle.
=====> Sweeeet Ray.
Not a color guy here (performance only).... but gotta give you the thumbs up on that specimen in the photo. Looks like a bird that's loaded with the goods.
I have mottles, but they have dark wing tips. So do my torts. Roll is there and plenty of it, but the color is drab.
QUESTION: What family is that bird derived from?

I have pepper heads. My mottles come from breeding pepper heads to checks.

Hey Ray, This is not the best picture but this is young bird off the Hiene Bijker imports Rick Schoening imported.. I hope he turns out as nice as the one you posted. I don't think so though.. Unless things change, this one is going to be double bull eyed? OUCH! LOL KGB

I believe pepper heads are black grizzles which is different than the mottle seen in the first photo. Grizzles have white and color on many of the individual feathers, whereas each one of the feathers of a Mottle are either colored or white. Tiger grizzle and Mottle are the same thing.
KGB's photo looks to me like a Grizzle with Pied. The Pied causes the bull eyes. It might even be a Pied Tort is it has some Bronze in the wing shield.

This is definitely a tort. Three colors expressed in one feather.
Some call them grizzles. I for one am still confused on the issue. I tend to call the dark background birds tort and the lighter ones griz.
Griz?

I think what George is asking is whether or not a bird can be produced with the mottled appearance of that nice black mottle (tiger grizzle), but with the blue that we see in a standard blue bar's wing shield, replacing the black.....a blue mottle; a blue grizzle, but a blue tiger grizzle...blue mottling, not grizzling. Correct George? And I don't think I have ever seen one....though technically it should be possible. BMC? Dave Strait? Gregg Sale? You guys are the wizards with this stuff!!! YITS, Cliff

Nice photos guys. Well, lets say that if someone had a barless(blue) roller. If you breed that bird with a rec. red mottle, is it possible to get offsprings that are I guess you would call it blue mottle? I hope this help alittle to clear thing up.
