The old guys get tired; the divorse destroys your desire to do anything other than take care of the task at hand.

You have to be careful buying some birds from some of these guys. One old fella in the NBRC mag has been selling his birds for two years with " Due to my pending divorce". Use common sence are they flying and winning??? Hmmmmmm.

Divorce in this country often means the male has to relocate and along with his home he loses his loft. Sometimes the divorce can be so bitter that he is restrained from even going near his old home. Unable to care for his birds he has no choice but to give them up. There are other reasons people who love their birds are forced to give them up, money, work hours, depression, ecc. Hopefully later in life they can regain this lovely relationship between human and bird.

This post hits home guys. With the economy like it is. even a 15 dolar bag of feed can be a lot of money. Trust me on that one. My company has not ran for over 3 months now. Money is super tight here. I have been thinking about downsizing, bigtime. Also, my wife left 6 weeks ago. SHE DIDNT THINK SHE HAD TO help pay any bills. Between her, my job( which could end any day now ) and money problems, I know I`m not taking care of my birds as well as I have in past years. It might be time to semi retire the loft, FOR THE BEST INTEREST OF THE BIRDS. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts

We can all find ourselves in situations from time to time when giving up the birds becomes a very real reality. You have to set your priorites and do what is best for the birds.

Preventive matenance!!! Thats all I can say,, I feel for those going trough hard times,,, I was one of those men long ago,, Me and my Rollers sufferd..I was young and gone on fires for 21day's at a time,, at the time I lived in the middle of the Sierra Nevada mountains... when I say it wen't bad I truly mean it,,, the main reason is my Love for my rollers was completely destroyed...My birds were willingly left without the basic care,,,, and multipal times upon my return from the fire's I would find my bird's "Rouge" living on my roof,,, and falling victum to the elements and preditors. They wouldent have even had a chance to survive if wasnt for my neibhor, a elderly man from Portugal,, who relized what was happning and liberated all my pigeons. Most I couldent retrive some I did and my fried Wrestler held them for me until I was able to Shake Satin's "FULL BLOODED DAUGHTER!!!!", Its crazy what some people will do to attempt to destroy your innerbeing this includes taking my first born son, whom I havent seen in 5+year, not my decision. And along the same lines its just as amazing what people will do to lend a helping hand in this Hobbie/Sport.I am greatful now because my wife knows my deal,, and sometimes I can be,, in the Coop for hour's on end she understands,, as she has watched me and my pigeons for years,. She grew up across the street from me and would watch me running the neibhorhood and rolling pigeons...LOL she was also my first girlfriend.... enough of the mushie stuff!!!LOL main thing is that she understands my struggle,, my destiny and purpose...TRULY... and yea thanks Wrestler,,, didnt mean to give you any flash backs>>>LOL...

I went through the divorce thing and had to give away birds. its usually the man that ends up with nothing and the woman gets the house and most every thing else. I almost had to give them up again last year. they canceled the lease on my property, I'm glad that worked out. I have made at least half of my kitpens and lofts so I can take them down and stack them and put them up else where. I hope I don't have to do that, its hard finding a place that will rent and let you have animals. I have been able to help out a couple of people that raise rollers. one was square, I'm suprized SATANS SISTER didn't burn his lofts with the birds in it. but I was able to hold birds for him while he got his life and job settled. but square has helped me alot. all of my best birds came from him. He is a guy that really knows rollers so don't take him lightly.
Werstler Square always put it Wrestler, I must remind him of one. LOL

Butch Sorry to hear about everything that is going on with you. Good luck to you and to everone else that are going through difficult times right now. I know that when I went through my divorce that I lost interest in almost everything I sold off my Beagles, my chickens and most of my show rabbits. I eventually got built back up bigger than ever in the rabbits, got more chickens, got started in pigeons and last week I just got a Beagle pup from a member of our local all breed pigeon club. Now my hobbies are the most important thing in my life again. I have cut back on things a little this past summer because the feed bill and gas prices were really starting to make thier mark. I might cut back on my hobbies from time to time and might even someday have to get out of things all together but my heart will always be with my hobbies. Times might be hard right now but they will get better, you just have to believe that. JohnL

I think alot of us have been in and out of birds for one reason or another. Myself I think it's been my third or fourth time back in hopefully this time for good. One diference is that this time I've spent some $ on good Quality birds and am considering competition next year and I think its going to keep me motivated.
