How much should I be feeding my breeders? I have 20 birds and I've been feeding them 2 cups lay pellets per day but they seem very hungry when I feed them. What are the pros and cons of just letting them eat at will from a hopper?

BTW I did do a search thats how I found 2 cups per day.

I always keep food in their bowls! I give them a certain amount, but its enough that they are just cleaning up what they got by the time I refill their feeder! The only reason that I don't keep it full all of the time, is they have a tendacy to only eat their favorites and waist the rest! If you are just feeding pellets, I say keep food in front of them all the time! They digest pellets a lot quicker, so they get hungry faster! Not sure your saying thats what you do. I give my breeders a mix of pellets and seed. This is for breeders! Flyers are a different story!

When I am feeding breeders I try to feed so that there is maybe, a handful of feed left at the end of the day. When they are having to take care of young, it will take more feed than you would think.

Also A lot more water when they are feeding, I use pellets for the breeders, all they want. Make sure to clean up any droped food or wet food.
