I just wanted to remind everyone not to forget to wear a dust mask or better yet respirator while cleaning out your lofts. I have a friend that is in the hospital fighting for his life due to pigeon lung disease. He was very stuborn and didn't heed the warnings and then he got sick everytime he cleaned his loft. Over time he was sick most of the time and then refused to see a doctor. My other friend got in a big argument with him and made him go to the hospital because he was coughing up fluid.

When he got to the hospital they where suprised he was still alive! Right now he's in intensive care fighting for his life.

Let this be a reminder for all of us. Life is worth a lot more than the small discomfort and annoyance we get from using a respirator.

Just my two cents.

Good News! My friend Will is going to be all right. The Doctors gave Will some special steroids to help repair his lungs and they say he will make a full recovery but he has to stay away from Pigeons for the rest of his life otherwise he can die!

So Will said I'll be inheriting some pigeons this week, I'm just glad he's going to be ok. I'll always remember to wear my mask in the future.

Always a good idea to wear your mask. My wife yells at me anytime she thinks I`m going to be cleaning in the loft. I do wear my mask.On the same note, My kitboxs are all painted inside for waterproofing. every week or two , weather permitting, I reliese a kit and then use the water hose to spray out most of the crap and then scrape off whatever is left, which is wet so no dust.

I also use newspaper or dolar store wallpaper for liner in the nest boxs. I do use my mask and rubber gloves to cleaan these but all I have to do is roll up the paper and its basically done. The only real scraping I do is on the perchs in the loft.
