Hey All, I live in southern Ohio and have seen B.O.P. on a daily basis. I have had my kit attacked but so far I have not lost any birds. I try to fly smart but it's just a matter of time before I will take a hit. I want to train them hard but I don't want to feed the raptors! When are the worst times of year and if you were going to lock down, from when to when? I have tried to research the subject but can't seem to find out on any B.O.P. site. I hope someone on the board would know or give me some idea of what they would do.
Thanks, Thom

Mornin' Thom, I'm on the west coast of B.C. and from my experience of only 1 1/2 years of flying,I've found the worst months here are from mid October till April.I've seen only a few hawks so far this fall and have lost 2 birds since July when the falcons living on the bluffs behind our place moved on.I locked em up for a few days and will try another fly when this cold wet front we are about to have hit us,passes. As soon as I lose a bird in October I'll lockdown till April.Last spring I started flying my birds in March and lost too many to the BOPs SOBs.Won't do that again!! YITS, Kel.

Thom, as you know I am just north of you.I am still flying but guys in the area are starting to lockdown. Traditionally October is the worst month here but anytime from now to April is pretty iffy.Drop me an Email and I send you a link for Hawk count site for this area.

Here in northern Indiana the hawks have not been bad on me , yet. I had 1 loss last week to a cooper. Last year and this year I have begun to lock up the best birds right after the fall fly. This year was lucky timing on my part as my first attack and loss came just days after I put the best from my A team in the loft for the winter.
I am still flying some young birds that need the air time and a few older birds that dont really impress me. Now is the time I really look at them hard to decide if they get put away for next year or get culled. If the BOPs dont get them first. ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
