Hi Guys,

What kind of pellet do you think is best,Ace-Hi Chicken Lay Pellets or Pigeon Pellets? I looked for Nutrena Lay Pelets but they are not sold around here. I have been feeding the Ace-Hi Pellets but I noticed my feed store also carries 2 types of Pigeon Pellets one types has a little more protien and higher price.

the pellet I use is made by Swansons brand. You may be able to order it here is a web site that carries it...at least you will have the name. I use the 28% protein.

I’ve been using the chicken lay pellets for 8 years with no problem. When I feed my breeders seeds, they would pick their favorites and waste the rest. The only thing I don’t like about the pellets is the high salt content, which gives them the runs, till you give them seeds again at the end of the breading season.Dont waste more money for pigeon pellets, if you get the job done with chicken lay pellets, just my opinion.

This nutrina feed may be trouble to get in the future for me! Our feed store owner has a hard time taking a pigeon man serious! How ever Atwoods carries a pellet that will always be availible! Comparison:

Nutrina:Guaranteed Analysis
Crude Protein Min...18.0
Lysine Min..........0.7
Methionina Min......0.3
Crude Fat Min.......3.0
Crude Fiber Max.....6.0
Calcium Min 3.5 Max 4.5
Phosphorus Min......0.6
Salt Min............0.25 Max 0.5
Sodium Min..........0.15 Max 0.4

Atwoods:
crude protien min...15.0
Lysine min..........0.7
methionina min......0.25
crude fat min.......2.5
crude fiber max ....8.0
calcium min..3.5, max...3.75
phosphorus min......0.7
salt min....0.15, max...0.5
sodium min..0.14, max...0.5

Also, my birds don't eat the nutrena as well! Doubt all the Atwoods carry the same brand as ours!Might find something close if you look around! Atwoods was a bit cheaper for me too!

Thanks guys! I guess I'll stick with the pellets my birds seem to do fine on them anyway.

Hey Val, what is the exact name of those Nutrina pellets. I tried a brand simular to Nutrina and I had a hell of a time getting my birds to fly higher then tree top height. Maybe I'll have better luck feeding them to my breeders.

Nutrina Naturewise Premium layer pellets!

Scroll up to see a picture of the sack!

My birds flew low all summer, but figured it was due to the heat and high humidity! Most of the guys around me are having the same problem and they aren't using pellets!

BTW, Im using about the same mix ratio as Paul!(fhtfire)

Ron the only thing i dont like is an increased consumption in water which in turn makes for loose droppings but the benefits far outweigh that

Rudy,

What is that human food called; a party pack or something? Did you put it together or is it something Sams or Costco has?

Rudy! Wake up and answer....I am serious, hambre.

I too use the purina pellets, both 18 and 14%. I normally just mix them in the feed. I have never had any problems. The ingredients keep me from having to use vitamins and grit.
