Hello Everyone,
Can anyone share their experience with 3/4 birds (father to daughter or Mother to son or even full nephew to full Aunt and vice versa)
I'm interested on how they performed in the air and in the breeding loft. Were they as good or better then the bird they 3/4'ed?
Thanks, Efren

My most successful pairings have came from father/daughter. I have had good success with mother/son, but not on the level of the father/daughter pairing. Brother/sister has been very sparatic and probably the worse of results. Most of my birds are related somehow someway, with just minimal inbreeding. Aunt/nephew; uncle/niece; and the step children/step father and all that stuff. I prefer them to have some separation, but yet be related.

Thanks Nick and Gotspin7. Did the offspring perform and breed better then the parents? Why do you think you results weren't as you planned with the brother/sister matings?

The "step" thing was a joke. That don't happen(LOL). Neither do fathers and mothers-in-laws.
Half brothers and sisters, huh? What about double second cousins?
Actually half brothers and sisters will work and a good way to line breed a keep that seperation. I have found that if you get them too closely related you begin to have things like web feet; some funky feathering problems; cross beaks; and they fly with a limp.
You can have a loft full of related birds, but don't get 'em so closely related that these defects begin to show up. It is diffucult to get rid of it.
Just kidding about flying with a limp.

Let me see if I'm starting to get the hang of this:
If you have a Blue Bar cock and pair him with a Widow Hen who's first mate became supper for a BOP and the Widow has a Ashred daughter you pair up with the Blue Bar's Sire, that makes the Blue Bar's sire his son-in-law and the Ashred hen his step-daughter and step-mother. When the Blue Bar and the widow Hen have a cock chick, he is brother-in-law to the Blue Bar's Sire and also his Uncle and half brother to the Ashred hen. Now, when the Blue Bar's Sire and the Ashred hen have a little cock chick, he will be 1/2 step-grqandson being the Ashred's son. So the Blue Bar's wife, the Widow Hen is His step-mother's mother, his wife is also his Grandmother. Since he is now his wife's grandson as husband of his grandmother I think there is pretty good evidence that he is his own Grandpaw!
If I'm not careful you guys will drive me to drink!

Snake....LMAO...Good stuff!!!!
The best bird I bred this year came from two 3/4 birds mated together. (Full brother/sister mating). I bred four birds out of that mating this year. Three turned out fantastic. One has not come into the roll yet.

Evening Nick,
An you thought I wasn't listenin Monday morning didn't you?????????? I got a mind like a steel trap, rusty!!!!
Until I can get some knowledge and/or Roller experience maybe I can supply the comic relief.
H, H, H, t; ILMHO!
Using the title Reverend on me requires a very generous and broad minded definition for me to qualify. Been to the show and seen the elephant, put my britches on one leg at a time just like all y'all. If you don't mind Snake or Ro will suit me just fine.
Keep in mind if you green grunts, the fly boys and the swab jockies ever get to Heaven, We already got the streets guarded!

Hey Velo99, I have been known to bum a ride in a quick quick a time or two. If I had a kid would could not get in the Corps, I'd be almost as proud if he/she chose to be a squid or green grunt or fly person or gator.
Every one of them will assist in building character.

On a Roller note, do the birds fly appreciably better in a dead calm??? does a light wind help or hinder? Do they spin into the sun or out of it?
I don't have birds yet, I really am just starting! Y'all just can't imagine what I don't know.

I like a lite breeze flying my birds! They will turn into it and hit their best breaks! They do ok without a breeze but I get more breaks with one! Thats with my birds anyways!
One of the things you will learn, is you always loose your favorite bird! Like me today! !#$^#%^%^ ---------- Val

I am sorry to hear about your bird.
Please delete the following if it is not appropriate.
Did the bird become BOP fodder, a blow away or what?
Does a historically stable, good rollin bird just all of a sudden become a roll down? I mean a roll down they can't recover from? parachute opens on impact!

Neither, Out of a 10 yr old pr of Higgins that I aquired last year, they have raised 4 sets of little ones, only one has been a cockbird, the rest hens! Anyways, I never flew him, because I was gonna breed him to his mother! Long story short,he got out of the cage today and hauled butt! First time ever out! I'm praying that he comes home tomorrow! He was the best looking cock bird I owned, and I got some nice ones! JMO

Are you guys getting roll downs on your 3/4 birds? If the father is 40' and the daughter is about the same, would the babies be stable like the parents or would they be to hot? ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

Efren, that all depends on your family of birds! Like I posted earlier most of my loft (breeders) are 3/4 birds and I get no problems! Most of my birds average 20-40 feet! And course you are always going to bring some all the way down, for example this year I bred 120 young and I rolled down 3 pigeons! Not bad eh? LOL! You should be alright! ---------- Sal Ortiz

3/4 pairing gets results for me. Seems to bring out the best in my birds. 3/4ering gets two thumbs up!
