The nutritional requirements of pigeons are easily provided through mixed feeds. Pigeons require a fairly high fiber diet of grains and seeds.
A protein content of 14% is desirable but most will do well on diets containing 12-18% protein.
Grains most commonly used include corn, wheat, millet, milo, peas and safflower.
Pigeons also need a source of grit and oyster shells. The shells provide calcium and phosphorus and the grit aids in the digestion of the seed.
These can be purchased at most feed stores. My preference is the red grit, and most commercially produced red bags contain a fair amount of shell.
If the birds eat only seed mixes then supplementation of the diet with soluble vitamins in the water may be desirable. Vitamin & Electrolyte Plus, like the one Tony sells on his site is a good vitamin supplement.
Pigeons are easy to feed. Feeding for competition and better rolling is an entirely different subject.

Camillo,
That was one of the most complete posts I have ever read about pigeon nuetrician. You pretty much gathered it all up in a very neat package.

Kel, Lettuce doesn`t contain a lot of nutrients. Char has more but as a rule lettuce should be avoided. There are a few greens, dandelions they love, that are good greens to feed.
I had some leafy green thing growing under my bird feeder. Sprouted from the seed. I threw it in the loft. It must have been good because they ate it like cake. I usually feed greens pretty regular during the spring and summer. I think it is purslane that grows wild around here that`s a good green too. Do a little research; most of the best ones are weeds that grow around the house. Easy to garden that way. I find one here and there, water it a little, pick and feed. ---------- V99 Flippin`The Bird!
