The type that I like is the one that Rolls hard and Fast and deep!! To be honest...I like what it does in the air...the "type" is whatever YOU like.
As far as the keel size...to me it is Blah Blah Blah...I have seen nice "swoosh" keels look good....Long keeled, Short keeled...etc etc...They have all done it in the air...I have seen short beak, Long Beak,...droopy winged...they all did it in the air...I have even see the SUPER CHICKEN do it in the air....The SUPER CHICKEN is a Black Cock that was the size of a crow...and in the air it rolled as hard and fast as any "text book" roller....Ask Nick..He seen it fly at my house..and now he owns that Chicken!!
What I am trying to say...is...it is all about what it does in the air. There are some things that you really want and that is a bird that is shaped like a wedge, has the tail feathers stacked so that they look like one feather when not flying....just a nice balanced bird...but it is all about what you like....Choose the birds that do it in the air.
I felt a bird at Ramseys house yesterday that had no chest and the flatest keel that I have ever felt and his A-team was stacked with birds from this Cock and according to Ramsey..he was a rocket in the air. Just goes to show you!! rock and ROLL

oooohhh, the Nike check logo. Yea, I guess they look like a check mark; a Nike logo check mark at that. Okay, yes I like them to look like a Nike checkmark especially if they spin....if they don't role and still look like a Nike logo I cull them. If they roll good, but don't look like the Nike logo I keep them. Type don't mean shit if they don't roll right.
Hmmmm, Nike?

About 3 years ago i had a bird in my A team that cought everyonce attention,i flew it for 2 seasons and still had many offers for that bird, but when that bird whould land people couldnt beleave that was the same bird.It was the biggets uglyest roller they have ever seen,i mean BIG. But you know what ,i stocked it and bred it to the smallest hen i have and those young can spin.So see size dont matter. ---------- Hector Coya

Hey RO, no, I was merely referring to Hectors comment about size not mattering, that was a comment Richard A. made to me referring to the breeding of large to small birds on my visit to his place a few days before I left Colifonia.
I have Richards number. Thanks though! :-) ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Hey Steve, my view is that a bird from my family demonstrating proper "type" can better apply all its energy to turning up the velocity and "snap, crackle, pop" into and out of the spin, not have to exert and waste energy to overcome a physical imbalance.
The goal in my view is the application of effort applied to the spin by a roller of proper type versus the roller that also has to overcome his physical shortcomings.
The fact the it can is testament to the mental and physical strength of the "breed" handed down to us by our forbears.
And even though it can overcome it's physical imbalance, it is no excuse to not breed for proper type. The answer is to raise the bar in our breeding programs so that we may give the next generation that follows what we have been given. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

Tony sorry i think your getting me mixed up with Ste uk I aint said anything on this subject.
If the bird rolls a first class spin in the sky then surely that bird is balanced in itself to the max to throw a roll thats perfect. These birds are athletes of the sky you fly a bird that aint in proportion in build that bird surely wont roll a A1 spin ? ---------- Regards W@yne UK

0016, the nike sign is the shape and pitch of the keel.
type does not produce spin. proper type does make it easier for a bird to correctly. typr does produce type.

All rollers should only be judged on their ability, its not rocket science, not forgetting they will come in all shapes and sizes,a lot like any other working species, when breeding for same, the apple never falls far from the tree, breed around those that have capabilities, other traits are mostly cosmetic and down to vanity of fancier
