I think it will be nice to have the California Classics back ones again. It will bring something new to talk about. It will also be interesting seen the difference types or rolls created since the last classics. Birds from the best breeders flying together it will be really nice to see.

I think one of the reasons the Classic was stopped was because so many birds would get sick from people sending in there sick birds...lol I know I had to replace mine one year because they had got sick from other birds that where sent to the Classic. Just more trouble then it was worth for the guy who flew them. I think Tim lost a bunch of his stock birds over it when he flew them. I know I would not want that at my house.

That was a good reason to cancel the classics, if people send it there sick birds just to get others sick. You don't know who you can trust some times.

The California classic was flown 2 years ago...and I believe that David Vang won it..but I could be wrong. Usually they take the qualifiers from the W/C and Fall Fly and have them compete..that is if I remember correctly. It had nothing to do with sick birds...because they judge it just like any other fly..the judge comes to your house.
I believe we did not have one this year because Juan Navarro (I think) was running it and as we all know he was a little busy with the hawk issue.
I really hope that someone will grab it by the horns and have last years and this years winners compete. That would make it real fun. I was really hoping that we would have had one...I wanted to fly in it.

Paul,
Your talking about the California fly and these guys are talking about the California Classic. The Classic was everyone send their best young to who every was flying the kits. They would train and place the very best birds in the classic kit to be flown the day of the classic. The birds would be auctioned off at the end. Prize money and trophies went to the top twenty flyers. I would also like to see it come back but it's a lot of work and people send sick birds which places the person flying the kits at undo risk. Not to mention the person flying the kits would have to put their own birds on the back burner to fly all the classic birds. They end up wasting a whole breeding season trying to get the classic birds ready.

An easy way to deal with the sickness issue would be to treat EVERY birds that came to the greeters house, and then take his medication expenses out of the winnings.

theres many reasons they stoped the cali classic the year it stop was becuse of the newcastle threat that was going around the government was going around and checking everybodys loft if you had any birds from piegons to finches they came that year they showed up at my door like i has housing aliens from out of space in white jump suits the whole ten yards, also they were killing a lot of birds that did not have the sickness that year the came to tim deckers house and people were so scared of contracting something they were going to watch the birds from the front yard since it couldnt be done right the canceled it and it hasint been back since , also some of the stuiped things that people were doing didnt help either i talked to kevin macray alot about it and still talk to him from time to time he used to tell me storys like people would accuse the host of stasting there birds for there own personal kit ,or people would tell him that there birds need to be feed a certain way to get the most out of them as if the host has time to ignore the other one hundred birds just for there benifit, and most of all it was at a time where a lot of socal lofts were being hit just like kevins did so it was a combanation of things that stopped the cali classic, oh yea dont forget the most asked question regarding the thing wheres the money thats collected going in the host pocket or to pay for the housing the birds now you ask your self would you want to deal withall that crap for a whole year?

Yes, we all will enter are birds and have fun.
We will have to have some one check each bird to see if they are not sick before entering.
Or the best competitor from each club to turn in two birds and they sure will not turn in sick birds.

No one person owns that type of competition, put one together and people will send you birds to fly.
