I have a pr of 97 Higgins with Gary Stephens bands on them! Is anyone familiar with his birds! Just curoius if I should be excited about these birds! Haven't flown them and won't,but was curiouse what some of their characteristics were! I have other good families and limited space, but somebody kept them around for 10 years! Just a gut feeling about them!
Any suggestions?

Val, Have you bred them to see if they are able to still fertile an egg?..If so, the best way "as you know" is to just fly out some young..If not, heck, settle them and fly them..10 years old?..Yea, they will still fly..LOL

Val,
Well, you mentioned some of the best citizens in the roller world; Higgins and Stephens. Somebody really liked those birds if the kept them around for 10 years. I think you got some good birds.

Thats my gut feeling too! I saved their first three rounds for breeding back to the parents, took three rounds to get a cock! Put my last round in the kit box and one got sick and got way behind! The other is a strong flyer! It was put in the kit box a couple of weeks ago, and it can already keep up with the middle kit! It got lost in the fly over last week and was one of the first to make it home the next day! All the youngsters, have a look that really turns me on! I plan on bringing them to Tonys and let Ray comment on them!
I'm very happy with my other families, but will keep working with this one too. I will put their offspring back to the parents at the start of breeding season!
Guess I should just call Gary again!!!
I will put the whole group together and get some pics posted. Ithinktheir worth showing off! Hope this isn't the starting of "loft blindness"!LOL

Really, that is a horrible picture too! She is really nice if you could see her live! I thought the bird right below her would be the best! She is the 1st round daughter! She will go back to the father first! I was even thinking about putting her in a show we have here in Dec. Guess I've got loft blindness! LOL ---------- Val

The third picture of this bird ,is a bird that looks like it could spin, very nice pose also the seventh picture of this sqeaker is a nice shot of this bird it stands real proud and confident, although I dont know if it is the same bird on the next picture, it looks different. Dont worry about the bull-eyes if it is later commented ,I have had a few that could really spin with quality. They could be used in the stock pen as long as the percentage of the family is quality or the trait is what your looking for,but I would not like for the bull- eye to over take my stock. Richard Luna

Val, That 1st round hen is also nice, but FOR ME, she is a little on the long side. NOT SAYING anything is wrong, but I am of the frame of mind, due to what I see in MY birds, is that the cobbier type with a medium chest is what seems to perform better IN MY YARD. I have 2 birds that have the same body makeup as that young hen, and they are really good, tight rollers, but the ones that are of a shorter nature as I described are the ones that stick out in the air...Your birds have it going on, and dont let this post make you think I am dissing them, because you know better!
Your bud!!!!!

Val, That 2nd round hen has the body type of it's mother..The type that sticks out to my eyes. Do me a favor.... Watch these young birds very close, and in the spring I am going to ask you which of THESE birds posted turned out to be the top spinners..For that to happen, you need to keep the BOP away from them..LOL..Fly them daily while young to get the best out of them..Dont lock them down just because you hear of others doing it..Only if you are getting hit hard!

Hi Val, Nice birds. Two things I thought I might mention. Nick, I think you are talking about Dick Stephens and these birds are from Gary Stephens I believe. Two, Val, before you bring your birds to the Tony show you might better check with him. I was of the understanding that the only birds that would be allowed at the seminar, show display were Tony's birds. You might want to check with him so you don't get moderated at the event.. LOL I could be wrong about this, but you might want to ask Tony first.. KGB

Thanks Kenny, I talked to Tony last week about it! We're still working on the details! The seminar won't be held at his house, so there won't be any chance of introducing his birds to anything! I think that was his main concern!
Also, thanks for the compliment on my birds! I was hoping you would make a comment! I have a couple other families that I'm excited about, but thought I would breed a kit of these next year and see what they do

Yes, I have several, some that are in training now! I took those first two daughters and put them on Urban cocks for a couple rounds and they are all showing good signs at this point! Have one hen (cross) that is a breeding prospect, but I'm gonna keep flying her!
The old hen quit laying on me, she is on some foster eggs right now, hopeing I can get her cycling again! The old cock is on one of his daughters now! Have a few in training from them too!
I'm working on getting some pics of them, hopefuly this weekend I will get some up! Val

When I got them, the hen was only laying once in awhile, so I didn't want to break them up! The first round was both hens and the second, I got a cock but he got out on a windy day and blew off! All I had was hens, so I crossed them on my Urban cocks and they are rolling and kitting nicely! I finally got another cock on the last round she produced and now I have it on a sister and the father is on a daughter also! Both prs are producing and the young are in training now!I think there is 6 full bloods now, and two more in the nest! ---------- Val

The whole west coast has it, so why wouldn't he sell any to the east? Is he afraid that some stranger from the other coast might beat him one day with his own birds?
