Shave the vents on both birds. The cockbird is not well-endowed. He can't reach. LOL It happens.

Absolutely 100% serious. I do it all the time with my really old breeders. It works.

Well, at least the part about shaving them. Ya, totally serious. Sometimes they just don't "do it" well together. I find my older cockbirds sometimes just go through the motions, and barely get under the hens tail, so if there is less obstruction, than that increases your chances. I know it sounds silly, but ya, it helps.

I shave both the hen and the cock, I also give the cock Fertility Tablets and they have to be were the sun hits them. I had problems when I had them in the dark. Make sure there is enouft room for the cock to step the hen. I like using 14" top to bottom but the minimum I have is 11" and my smaller birds go in there.

Here is an example, the first one is with feathers and the second one shave. Ones you can see some skin is ok to leave it like that. Just make sure you do both hen and cock. Give them oyster shells also.

I used to raise Indian Fantails and a few other fancy breeds, before I found the best pigeon out there, THE BIRMINGHAM ROLLER. anyways, the point is that a lot of birds with fertility problems cam be helped by trimming these tail feathers and the feathers around the vent. With the Fantails it is very common to have to do this.I actually cut a "V" shape in the tail of them. I have not needed to do this with a roller , yet, but would not hesitate if needed. Oh ya, and Rollers are the only pigeon on my property now... ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
