First Off I would like to say that none of my birds are stolen birds... Now most of my bird are from Brian McCormick and most of the youngster have no band on them... At the time when they were young I have had no money and is still struggling to buy bands but I can buy feeds though... Now I am Unemployed but will be having a job soon... My question is that have anyone tried clipping a band onto the pigeon then weld it...?
If anyone feel that these birds are stolen they can let me know and/or talk to Brian... And I also have pics of them if you want...

That wont work.
Buy numbered plastic snap on bands. They will work.

If your still struggling to make ends meet next breeding season, holler, I would be willing to send Tony $5 or so, if a couple others would and we'll help you get a few for 08! ---------- Val

Hey Silentroll the bands don't make the bird.Unless your going to show.I have a lot of birds with no bands.Due to having no bands /laziness. Just enjoy your birds,Lets face it 75% to the BOP here in riverside county,ca So are bands worth it?If you know your familes were the babies come from,so much for the bands. Will tell year born? what else?

Unless you have a photographic memory, just get bands. lol If you ever plan on getting serious about rollers this is very important. Its not about showing them, but good record keeping is a MUST.

No bands?
You should get in the habit of banding the birds. It's just the easiest and best way to go about it. Ray is right. Bands aren't important? What about when you have 100 birds? For now, probably not, since you are first starting out. If you find a couple good ones to build a family around...Then you will have to come up with a catchy nickname for them. lol I keep a breeding sheet, where I document all the birds I produce each year. I can't imagine having that without numbers to refer to.
They make these plastic clip on bands that curl around the leg. No year or anything, but it does have a number sequence. They are cheap and you can find them at the feed store. That way the ones you got that weren't banded will have a number. You can use that as a reference point when breeding. You know 07-35 X 07-36...etc My loft is 98% dark checkers...LOL So I HAVE to have bands. Take care, and good luck.

I think banding is important for identification, it also looks good on the pedigree if you use them. I just had a problem with banding, I banded 2 baby rollers at 8 days and just noticed that both birds lost thier bands. Now they are 16 days old and the bands wouldn't fit so I took 2 of my aluminum band and s-t-r-e-c-h-e-d them out using the point of a GIANT nail. I was able to strech them just enough to get them on. I don't know how legal that is for competition but they are still solid bands with no cutting glueing or welding. ---------- Ed B. Man of few words due to a lack of typing skills.

Ed, there are no rules such as having a banded/unbanded bird for Comp.
Just open the door and let them go. ----------

Thanks Guys,I stand corrected,In order to be successful in rollers, good record keeping is one of the keys. You're absolutely right. My post was out of frustration due to the fact that I know that the BOP in my area have 100s maybe 1000s of bands in their nests. I live just over the mountain from J.Higgins and up the street from Worm Mitchell. We get hit hard here. For me I lose so many birds per year and I know my families so that banding is not a priority.
