Hello Friends
Today I went into my loft and noticed that one of my breeder hens would not get up on her feet. I picked the bird up to examine her to see if maybe a rat or something tried to pull her through the chicken wire and and came to the conclusion that this was not the case. The bird feels ok when I pick her up she looks alert and everything but she just will not get on her feet. I sat her out in the sun to see if maybe she needed some good sunlight but there was no improvement. Has anyone ever experienced this and if so, what did you do?

She could possibly be eggbound.

Thats so funny you said that because when I put her in the sun I noticed that there was a egg in the cage that was not there before. Do you think that she will be ok

BigWilly, if you have B-12 vitamins give it to her along with vitamin e oil.I have done this and it has helped couple of my hens tremendously in 2-3 days, dont forget the grit.

Half a calcium pill and give her both halves.Keep grit in front of them.Willy, one thing I do is buy magnesium chalk blocks and break it into small bits into the grit. The chalk helps their bodies absorb calcium. You will find they will look for the bits when fresh grit is filled in their grit pot.....Aloha,Todd

Get the calcium pill into her now. A small two hundred and fifty mg tablet or half of a five or six hundred mg tablet for two or three days will get the job done. Stick it in the water before you stick it down her throat, will make it easier for her to swallow. The egg is probably fine also but she will need time to recover her calcium levels and probably won't get around to setting it for a few days.

Not so fast there folks. When I replied to his post, the answer I gave was based on the information he provided. But since he came back and said that she laid an egg in the cage, indicated that he didn’t know how to spot a hen in the process of laying eggs. She was not eggbound based on his response back to me; she was trying to lay eggs. I believe that hen has no issue whatsoever. That is my take.

Calcium deficiency is the most probalble problem. A little calcium never hurt any bird. Bet with a little of same she will be on her feet in 24 hours. If not, then she has some other problem. He did say she would not get up.

Spyders
What is the best medication for when a spyder bite a pigeon.

I had some birds in the past die on me for no reason and I think was for a spyder bite.

I had one die on me for eating to much grit I think. Before I always had grit on the breeders loft and one of my birds didn't stop eating. This bird was one of my favorite ones and I always check on him every day. My friend came over to see the birds and we saw my bird full of blood. I pick him up and was throwing up blood and grit a lot of grit. The bird die on my hands right after I pick him up. He had no cuts nothing, and was fine 1 hour before.
