These aren't dumb questions at all, pigeonman! I had a hen that was humped up for the last couple of days myself! I could feel the egg in her and wasn't sure what to do either! I was gonna go get some calcium tablets tonight, but I got lucky and she laid it this evening!
You got questions, you ask! More times than not, there is someone else out there wondering too!
Sorry, I'm not the guy to answer your question, but I haven't ever had problems in this department before! I keep medicated red grit and oyster shells in front of them all of the time!
Wouldn't normally breed this time of year, but I recieved some new parlors from Dennis Hayes the other day, and I put a few fosters together to try to get a round from them before it gets cold! ---------- Val

I've heard that cod liver oil might help move an egg. I'm sure that it'll move the bowels as well. A cod liver capsule might be worth a shot. Just be careful getting it down her throat as you don't want to have that egg break inside her. That would end up as an infection and probably cost you the hen. Gregg.

Cod liver oil in liquid or cap! Gregg is exactly right. Also helps with the molt.

I never had this problem before in open loft and also never bred at this time before. Now I'm breeding in individual departments to have more control of them. I also have to breed at this time due to not having enough birds. I had the same problem with one pair. What I did was put the hen in the open loft so she can fly a little and get some exercise for 1 hour and ones I put her back to her next she laid the egg. This could of been a coincidence but it work for me.

Thanks for the info guys I appreciate it. This morning when I walked out to the loft their she was sitting on her egg thank God! I also would like to say that I know its not a dumb question, a dumb question is one not asked. I just kind of like saying the phrase. I know this site is here to learn from in order for the fancier to ask questions and learn from one another.
