The Southwest Nissouri Roller Association held a competition Roller fly in October of 2007. Jerry Ledford was the first flyer to release his kit a little after nine oclock. It was rainning hard before that but it was drizzling down slightly when Jerry let the kit out. They kitted very well and attained a very good higth to judge. The kit performed quartere turns in the medium to deep depth. This was a young bird kit and they performed straight spins and broke together the majority of turns. The majority of the birds showed the same wing style but a few showed superior style. Jerry has some new stock birds that should help in breeding overal Rollers. Jerrys wife and daughter served doughnuts and refreshments and everyone enjoyed their hospitality. The second flyer to release his kit was Joe Woodley. His kit also rose to a pleasent higth but only three to four birds broke together so no turns were registered. The birds that performed were good in style an velosity including medium depth. This was the first time his Rollers flew time. The third flyer to fly his kit was Spike Gilmore. His kit was almost identical to Jerry's but scored more quarter turns. The reason they looked simular was they are related. Everyone enjoyed seeing this competition Roller kit perform well. Then it was time to eat a potluck lunch including some delious pies. The last flyer to let his kit out was Lloyd Lee. They are also related to the other flyers Rollers. This kit was the most active kit flown but two birds were out the first ten minutes. Therefore no turns were scored the first ten minutes but the last ten minutes they kitted good and some turns were scored. It was a shame they didnt kit the whole time because they performed very well. Nevertheless everyone enjoed the day we had together flying Rollers. All flyers flew twenty bird in there kits. The next fly will be held the second Saturday of November and it will be our last fly of the year. Fly Director, Ray
