Birds gotta love to be a roller and show it! Here is what I mean...
PT 1 (Roll) The bird has got to enjoy the experience of rolling; after all he is a “roller”. He must not be afraid to snap into and out of a short, medium or deep roll and then slingshot back to the kit.
He is to “possess” the roll, not be “possessed” by it. That desire to roll in this manner is a trait that is most important and one that I want to see maintained in my Ruby Roller strain.
The roll must also be of good quality. I look for the “H” style and consider it to be the minimum quality of a better than average roller.
The Ruby Roller must be able to “snap-crackle-pop” into and out of the roll and do its best to get back to the kit and work itself into position to do it again, once or twice a minute is preferred. ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

I think Tony is saying a bird that does not fight the roll!
For me personally I would say velocity, style, kitting ability, depth and finally frequency!

It all starts with kitting; that is what the bird has to do first. Everything else is done from the kit and then back to the kit to do it again. If a bird doesn't want to be culled right away he had better kit and kit well.

VELOCITY----STYLE, the must go hand and hand ,frequency a very important quality that I must have is to know that the family breeds this in high percentage, because if it does'nt, I DONT NEED IT.

The birds are expected to kit, it's not something I have to breed for but the inability is something I cull for. I choose velocity first then style.

Kitting, Quality of the roll, Frequency, Depth.
I look at every bird that i fly as a future stock bird candidate. I personally have very little kitting issues within my family of rollers but so how good that bird can roll and how frequent it will nevr enter the stock loft if it has problems in the kitting department. It will become history. ---------- Regards W@yne UK

Bill Pensom said a good Roller has to be bred for high flying hights. This will encourage the bird to perform and feel safe once it starts spinning deeper. A bird that consistantly flys low and wants to land early should be culled. Style,Velosity,Depth,Kittimg and Frequency are essencial in breeding great stock for competition flying. The Roller should break clean from a spin and fly directly to the kit. Then the bird has to be a great kit bird the entire time it is flown. I started learning and studying the competition Roller in the early fourtees in Modesto and Los Angeles,California. I educated many Roller fanciers in California and for the last seven years more of the same has been going on in Missouri. Study the breed hard and you will be successfull. Ray

1. velocity, velocity 2. style- clean in and out 3. kit-tight 4. 3-5 times per minute frequency 6. type small 7. smart 8. temper 9. character 10. depth ? 11. Expression
You can't have only one and is a must to have all. In the order I don't think it matters as long as you have it.
What comes first the chicken or the egg? LOL
