The Southwest Missouri Roller Association held there final fly of the year the second Saturday of November 2007. The first flyer was Bill Tomforte from Semore,Missouri. Bill hasnt competed in two years therfore it was great to see him compete again. The time he released his kit was nine o clock and it was windy and cold. Once they were released the wind blew them out at a low altitude. A hawk chased the kit immediately and one bird landed in the field many acres from the kit loft. The remainder of the kit rose to a pleasant heigh and the kit was frequent the entire fly. There were many one quarter turns and some half turns but the majority of the birds showed poor style or low x-wing. There was some birds that showed satisfactory style and velosity therefore some turns were scored. It will be interesting to see this kit after the molt and better weather conditions. We ate donuts and had beverages and got a chance to see all of the stock birds. Then we headed off to Highlandville were Bill Roy lives. Bill released a young bird kit that flew at a low altitude and performed some quarter turns with good style and velosity but the depth was short. They lacked frequency and it was windy and the majority of the birds showed blood feathers. These birds should be better after the molt along with good flying conditions. Bill flew an old bird kit that was nearly blown out of site. They eventually returned to a distance for scoring. The majority of the fly they were flat but some quarter turns were achieved. Then Bill showed us all his stock birds and it was a pleasure seeing and handling them. The majority of Bills birds for many years came from Joe John Gobb and Bob Westfall. Actually the biggest majority of Roller breeders from this area breed and fly this stock. Bill has been breeding my stock for at least six years and has bred them to his old stock with good results. He still posses some of his old stock pure too. Good luck with your breeding stock, Bill. Joe Higgingbotham was suppose to fly his kit last but he decided not to fly. We had the pleasure of drinking some beverages at Bills place during the fly. Thanks guys and good luck next year. The next time we meet will probably be in January to distribute bands and schedule the fly schedule.Ray,

Yes, I fly with this club. I had bad luck the past 2 years, loosing my A-Team both years. I only flew 1 time this year, and that was with early 07 birds. They are coming on strong, and should be ripe for the spring. I currently have 3 kits of 07 birds, and will hopefully have them come spring. We are pretty lucky here to not have a huge BOP problem that most have. My losses have come from an overfly arising from a BOP attack where they went to high, behind clouds, and gone. The 2nd was a mistake on my part..Flew them for family visiting from Tx. in very crappy conditions, and lost 17 out of 20 in Jan...I will fly all club flys in 08, along with the W/C and F/F..as long as I have birds!

Hey Jerry you got the right attitude and drive to succeed breeding and flying competition Rollers. It was a shame you lost your kit birds the last two years. You have a good working young bird kit that should be better next year. Are you planning on creating your own family in the following years? I noticed you have some new stock birds that should help you achieve better style and stability. Then you will notice the deeper birds will have better style and control. I think the percentige of rolldowns will go down too. Robby flew three young bird kits today and some are performing decent. In the next three months more should be performing for him to compete. Bill Tomford has one young bird kit that is performing frequent medium turns but the overal style is lacking. But he has one family that has better style and good velosity and depth. If he crossed the two families it is possible better stock would be bred. Only time will tell if his breeding stock improves. There are other fanciers in the club that should do better in the flys next year too. District #1 Director is Robby Rusher. District #2 Director is Spike Gilmore and District #3 Director is Bill Roy for 2008. Secretary-Treasure is Barbara Lee. Publisity Director is Ray Sanchez and Band Director is Joe Higgingbotham. If there is any changes it will be announced at our next meeting. Adios Amigos in the Roller fancy. Ray Sanchez
