Hey Bill,

I am not getting the quality from her that I expected. I have had her with two different cocks and the results this far has been subpar. I am thinking about removing her to the kitbox.

I will continue to evaluate her off spring next year. They still may come on.

That title has given to her from the breeder and not me. I have later found he gave that title to other hens as well. I got her free (that should have told me something) from a well known feather merchant. I have flown his birds with some success in the past; so we will se.e

Russ,

I am sure you know the breeder I am talking about (and his son). The pedigre was awesome and the note "once in a life time hen" was also found on other pedigrees from the same breeder. Lots of "once in a life time" birds, huh?

I have known that some people have sold different birds as the same bird and were caught by another breeder who knew who actually had the "real" bird.

Weird, ain't it?

Nick, at least you didn't pay anything for the bird.
I will say that there are some good birds from those guys but not anywhere close to what is represented on the pedigrees. I say this from personal experience.
When my birds were all stolen I got a few of that family to try out and weeded through them and I've still got a couple 12 year old cocks that throw some good birds on a pair of old hens. In fact, I've loaned one pair out to a flyer in my area and he bred a hen last year that was the best he or anyone in his club had seen in a long time. I've also given youngsters away to another friend that I wish I had back in my loft ... except on the days they are flying fast, high and stiff...lol
Just like any other family ,It's a matter of finding the right birds to work with.
However, if I had to choose only one family to work with there are better and easier families to manage and that's the direction I've been going in for the past few years.

Russ,
I'm working with that family.I'm pretzel breeding them and the young look outstanding. As you might know that family took 1st,2nd,and 3rd in our futurity fly last year. When Don Simpson was at my house last year for the fall fly,he pointed those birds out, truthfully,I haven't seen anything better here in Hawaii.Like you said, its the individuals you happen upon from any family.I'm just glad I found it with this family....Aloha,Todd

Hey Todd,
I'm glad those birds are working out for you. As you probably know I personally bred from them before I sent them to Walt and I had already produced some good birds from them. Some are better than others but there are some birds in that group that are exceptional. You happened to get one of the exceptional pairs to work from and that makes all the difference. Keep up the good work! Nick, on the other hand probably got a dud.

Nick, you may recall a few years ago, I first offered you some birds from this group but you declined. Those were the real deal proven birds from that family and you would have had a much different experience with them. The only thing you wouldn't like is the color...all the best ones are blue....lol

Sal,

I looking at a gift now that you know well. I like her demeanor and alertness. I think she is going to be fine and has that character thing that is hard to explain to someone who is not into rollers is all there.
