Right now they are about five feet tall. I told her when they get were coopers are using them for ambush. I'm topping them!! Man that was a bad thing to say!!!!!!!!! I still have a fat lip! It will be a few years for I can get pine needels from them .PS if I live that long! ---------- Tapp

I put sand in the bottom of the nestbowl then a little pine shavings and I throw some pine needles on the loft floor for the breeders to pick up and fly up to the breeder cage with, makes 'em feel like they've accomplished something.Just find a pine tree and there are usually needles under there.---------- Kelly

Tobacco stems, we have a company in town that sells them for 23.00$ for 50 pounds, quite a bargain.

I have used straw, hay, pine needles and tobacco stalks. The birds really seem to like the straw. I dont like it though. It is hollow and is said to hold bugs and such.
I like the pine needles but the birds didnt build much of a nest with it. It smells good in the loft and is easy to clean up after a couple rounds.
I like the hay but there is a lot of waste in the loft that they dont want to use. a lot of real small pieces. the birds do seem to like it.
I like the tobacco stalks best. The birds really like it. It smells good in the loft. It is supposed to help keep away bugs from the nest. It doesnt seem to break down and is easy to clean up every 5 or 6 weeks.
Tobacco stalks from RPDC is my choice... Just my opinion

Hello:
Remember when you use pine needles, use the long needles not the short ones. I use them when they are still green, makes the loft smell good and helps with the lice.......Glenn

Straw is not a good nesting material. It's hollow and moisture and mold gets in there. Not reccomended. ---------- Kel.

Hey Tapp if you want pine needles come on over and rake my yard. I can fill a 35 gallon barrel with them easy. I have 70 foot red pines all the way around the house(you have seen them)The red pine are nice and long and the cock loves to carry them around in front of the hen. Rain gutters are full also, so hurry up and clean my gutters also. HA HA!!! ---------- Tall Pine Lofts
