I would like to know what are the methods every one uses or use to find their best breeders.

This is what I'm doing and this will take me one year. I let one pair from the same strain breed 4 offspring then I change both of this pairs to a another hen and cock and another 4 offspring. I will be doing this in till I have bred every cock to every hen from the same strain. I have 5 pairs from each strain that I'm working on this. I want to know which pair produce the best ones for what I like. Then I will start with that pair my family and in breed and line breed to maintain the line.

Please let me know what you guys think.

You need at least 8 young from a pair flown out for a year and evealuated to tell what you're producing. Even then, you're not 100%. Leave each pair together for a year and witch each year. After 3 or 4 years, you will have an idea if you can hold on to the youngsters for a full year and a half and see how they turn out.

I would use foster's.You would be able to pump out atleast 6 babies in 6 week's.I have used foster's to move my program along and it has helped me out in a major way. With foster's you can also breed 1 cock to several hen's at 1 time I do it every season with great success.Foster's are the best way to go to get the most from your breeder's.

I would make more of the same.If they are giving you what you want and you have already tried switching them up,and nothing better has came along, why not put them back together?

I agree with you Ro you need more then 4 babies in southern California. Thats why pumpers is your bestfriends, preferably homers. You need about 10 babies off a pair. Then you can switch mates.

RO, HOW LONG WOULD YOU RUN THIS PAIR BEFORE SWITCHING THEM? I'D RUN THEM AT LEAST THREE SEASONS OR FOR ENUFF TIME TO SEE IF THE YOUNG COULD PRODUCE EQUALLY OR BETTER.

I would run them maybe 2 or 3 season's or until I had enough for maybe 3 kit's to really evaluate in dept for a couple of fly season's to see if they hold up and keep the quality. Then I would see if the offspring from them would produce just as well or better then the O.G pair,If so I would build around these key bird's.

Yes homers are the best fosters. They can take care of 4 roller babies.

Yes! This is how I do it. You foster the pair like you would normally do with the homers. Throw the homers eggs away. Then when the eggs hatch you wait to the babies is old enough to band. You band them, then you find some babies around the same age band them and put them under there with the homers. Take records so you want get confuse. Thats why you wait to you band them first. The homers will take care of all 4 no problems.

They will feed them good and no they won't bite them. Yes racing homers! You got some real aggressive cocks that will try to take over the cage don't want nobody to eat. Them you stay away from. They sometimes will kill the babies. I had only one cock like that. One time I was playing with my son and my best pair had got out the cage and flew away. There babies was only about 5 days old and I didn't want to lose those babies. The only option I had was to put them under a homer pair that had babies that was 2 weeks old. Took care of them with no problems. I love homers I will always keep me a few pair.

If I breakup a pair, I like to put them in the kitbox and they have to earn there way back to the loft. Todate, none have done that.
