after how long do you think you should take the youngsters away from the parents.i personally believe taking them away before they can eat for themselves could leave them weak.would you agree

Hi I take my babies away once they are 80% feathured under the wings.

I take them at 18 days back and forth with them, gives them a chance to depend on themselves at an early age, to learn there surroundings who is there coach and the feeds comes from me. --and i notice they out flying at 6 to 7 weeks old. Ralph....

I put them on the floor when their tail feathers are about an inch long. Seems to work for me. I have a 10 year old cock bird that I open loft for fostering and he will feed any baby that comes his way. A bird like him is valuable enough to me to justify feeding him year after year even though he never bred anything worthy. And, my daughter took a liking to him several years ago and named him Ozzy after Ozzy Ozborne. LOL. Every hen he pairs with we call "the new Sharon" ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
