too many hawks...... thats about the only one I hear. I go to a huge animal swapmeet every year and there are a lot of people selling, so called rollers. but they all say the same thing. they are great rollers from this family or that, but I havent flown them in years cause of the hawks.LMAO

I flew them already...

they might rolldown because I haven't flown them for a while...

I just saw a hawk fly by no way!...

Are you asking for excuses not to fly while you`re there or to fly in competetion?

I just fed them.
too windy
too still
too cold
too hot
too humid
too dry
just started moulting
just finished moulting
I just paired and my best birds are in the breeder loft.

The hens are eggy.

I don`t have to prove anything to anyone, including myself.

I have the best birds in three counties, refer to above post.

The judge doesn`t like me.

My region sux and we can`t get a good judge.

The guys in my region hate me because I won in 1926,and jack my schedule when I do try to fly in competetion.

I missed the deadline, for three years in a row.

I forgot to pay my dues.

I can`t get off work and don`t trust the RD and judge in my backyard with my dog,... I mean birds.

Funny thing is I have really heard a lot of these.

Deadendkid,

you must be young but you will learn one way or the other. You go ahead and paint that list of excuses on your loft wall and get in all the laughs you can for now.Make sure that after you paint all the excuses on the wall that you leave room at the top of the list for " I Don't Have Any Birds To Fly". That way you want have to make any excuses when it's your turn to fly,you will be telling the truth and not making any excuses! A old timer and I cann't remember who it was now, once told a group of us that " you have to learn when to fly as well as when not to fly". you really have to learn the weather in your area becase you can loose birds on days when the sun is shinning bright, windy and overcast days. The Hawks are not the only problem but they are the biggest problem. I have learned when my birds come out and start flying west that is a big problem. I have lost whole young birds kits like this, they fly toward the ocean and I never see them again.
So go ahead and paint that list and laugh it up but you look at that list and your eyes catches that # 1 reason " I don't have any birds to fly" that laughter can quickly turn to tears.

It is people choice to fly or not to fly. If they wish not fly, they just simply need to say NO. If you wish to fly, then you are more than welcome to join. Why do we have to harass anybody?

I am new to flying comp and am a member of the all england roller club.
In this club you only have the chance to fly once a year so I would love to beable to compete more then just that.
Were I come from we dont have a local club so at the moment I am having a bad time indeed trying to compete.
Thats my reason for not flying but boy would i love the chance to beable to compete as much as possible.
I still fly my birds for my oun enjoyment everyday and untill a club comes along I will keep doing so.
My city was one of the top citys for rollers 10 years o so ago and now there isnt even a club.
WHAT A SHAME.
The thing is every were i go in my car i see kits of rollers flying about.
I have this dream that a club is on its way.

Of course I can't fly my birds the Barometer reading is too high. The extra pressure will make my birds disapear in the atmosphere and they will end up landing in another state. OH MY!

Those darn hawks can't fly that high.

Jay, I do not think they are harassing anybody really. I might be wrong but to me is like having a race horse and talking to everyone how fast your horse is but you NEVER race it.. I know I might not be right and to each his own, but sometimes it is like GEES..... LOL..

P.S.. Not trying to pick on you at all, please do not take it as such...

I agree with you gotspin7...however, from the sound of this thread gave me the impression that is just to pressure and intimidate the none competitive flyers. It was just my reflection on this thread.

What I see is people don't have a worthy kit to enter competition. Once they have a good kit, you won't have to twist their arm to join. We need to help them assemble a good kit. Although, some people might talk the talk but when asked to show, they will buckle and have excuses. I understand that...

Here is the proper thread that this belongs in Todd

(Scott,
Of course it aint happening, because we are not flying on the same day,the same conditions,or more often the same judges[that is subjective anyway],and same team of kit birds.
So you can plainly see the 1 day out of the year that some one has a chance,on a world level, could be a big flop or be the best kit they ever put up and everything in .

That does not discount the 2 to 300 plus times out of the year that we have had better or worse flys. This is rellevant to the mental and physical factors you mentioned above.

If it was the one true test as you claim, that competition winner would and should be expected to win all the flys after that, and we both know that aint happening...Aloha,Todd

Scott, you know I'm for the competitions, but when someone wins an event,it is the guy who )

Look I was lol at what was said I lol because it was plain funny . As for me competing ..its about fun to me and hanging with the boys . I can say " its my first year " or whatever ..I might not score a point ..but then again I might win . I thought it was about fun. Maybe Im wrong but Im still gonig to fly if I have birds.

This is not meant to sound patronizing by any means. I have to admit Nick, this is the most brilliant thing I believe I've ever heard regarding both subjects of judging and the BR. It's so profound that I think we should all adopt it and hang it above the doors of our lofts as a subtle reminder. If it's your fly time, you'll see it. If it's just feedin' time for a guy with a bunch of crayons sitting on a perch, you'll see it. Some will say Excuses either way or justifications either way. I still think it's brilliant.

I LOVE IT!

Not competing because you don't have a team ready is unexcussable. The only time that should happen is like what Pete is saying. Not enough birds

Deadendkid said: "can you guys help i want to make a list with excuses as to why someone dont fly their birds".

How about....

1) My birds fly like lead balloons and lawn darts, and I only have 3 left.

or
2) I only keep these pigeons as pets, for when my grandchildren come to visit.

or
3) I only keep these pigeons to use the droppings as a fertilizer for my tomato plants.

Are these excuses acceptable? (lol)
