Back skull, thats the first time I ever herd that term. Not quite sure what you mean by that Thor. Do you think you could explain that term in more detail for me ?
As far as the performance goes for the birds, I had a good year. They met and exceeded my expectations as breeders and performance in the air for my first year back in the hobby. ---------- Ray

John and Ray, Nice looking birds.
John, I have a 04 breeder cock resembles the 04 blue grizzle cock you posted and I have him on a red mottle hen w/f/t. They give me tortes shell offspring that are awesome. They develop at 3 months, way a head of all the youngsters from m y breeding program and they hold it together. Beautiful blue grizzle you have there.
Ray, what is the difference between the two rec reds you have there!!! Is the top picture sports smoky!!

Thanks John, I had a great time at your place yesterday. Congratulations to you as well. I sure did like that blue bar you posted there. She sure felt good in the hand. I wish I could have held more birds there yesterday. I saw allot of birds I liked.
Jay, Not much difference between the two reds. One is larger then the other, thats about it. I will try to get a photo of them side by side. the lighting made the first one look a bit darker. He does show a little blue in the feather. ---------- Ray

GotSpin, I have been out of the hobby since early 2000 so it is taking me a little time to get reacquainted with what im breeding from. Many of the old numbers I see on the pedigrees I remember well. Some of them go back to my old family of birds. But all in all, from what I can tell, they all go back to just a few birds. I am currently working with nothing but Johnny's birds and one Higgin's cock. ---------- Ray

Skyline, the black self hen is balanced nice from the photo. I like her. How was she in the air?
Hi John, I wish the blue bar was standing where I could really get a good look but I like that one from what I can see. How does it feel in the hand and did you fly it out?

Jay, The first one is smoky, it tends to darken the head and neck region while lightening the beak and wattle. The second one is also undergrizzle which gives that lighter flight and tail. I don't remember now whether it is an old bird or a young bird. Irregardless, undergrizzle will become almost unnoticeable in a heterozygous Ug bird after the moult and will darken up to a point not nearly as noticeable on a homozygous Ug. Probably no indigo. Remember, recessive red covers most everything. Gregg.

Big Al,
Nice to here from you. The blue bar feels good in the hand, I believe Ray talked about that in one of the post. The blue bar is the only bird not to be flown in because it's going into a kit that is being given to a friend. He's not going to fly the kit but prove them out in the stock loft.I have flown siblings and they are nice 25' -30' range but the preds. like them also.I flew a cock and a hen team about 2 years ago. only had a few good ones let midway through the season so I stocked a few of the good ones and gave a couple to a friend. Rod has seen a whole of them fly, ask him what he does think about them.

I term any bird with a long gated head - bird with back skull. I'm trying to stay away from that type of a head in my family but do breed some every now and then. It makes for a showier head type of Roller. These birds tend to be more mentally strong - equals more stiff performance. On the same topic, for some reason in my area, birds that do well in the flying roller shows are of this type of head. On that note, my birds are all ways one of the first to be eliminated from the cages at our local club meets flying roller shows. Don't know if it is a good thing or bad. Heck if they perform up to grade, it matters little how look like - well kind of. (lol) Thanks for the reply, good looking birds on the ground... would love to see them in the air some day. Thor

Thor, Thanks for answering my question about back skull. I think Richard did a good job of describing it as well. Also, thanks for your advise on what to look for in a bird, (show verses flying). Hopefully I can learn from it and do better in fly competitions next year. ---------- Ray
