He deserves it. A big heart with a great personality. Them Jake N Bake can dance. I think he is the only one who has been into the rollers the shortes time ever to get the big one. That is an acheivement my friends.

Hey, Jay..Guys, We just finished the Finals in the Southeast Region, and we just got back from Charlie's. He came really close to posting a BIG number according to the judge, but some waterfalling hurt him. He had 37 breaks (42 during the regionals), and these were 5-8 bird breaks instead of the 10-15 he was getting at the regionals. He had subsituted four birds...and it showed.....they were not in synch with the others. My own birds came out a little flat in the 11-bird Finals. They had flown only 12 minutes in their last fly and my fastest and best hen cam down even earlier....which she has never done. The temps dropped to 29 the last night or two so I fed them up...overcompensated....they flew for an hour and a little too strong. And I took my best hen out. I hate those last minute changes! I'm gonna have to start counting grains of wheat next time!!!!LOL! I'll have to settle for second place for now. It's been a ball, though. We have had a great day talking rollers with all the guys, and laughing at life.... YITS, Cliff

Jay,
Those Jake N Bake may be able to dance but Charlie showed up to the dance with a back up dance partner, just case one was needed. Charlie is a great guy and I'm happy for him.

Called and congratulated Charlie last night. His only comment was gracious, "there three left in the dance and I won't until they have had their turn." That's paraphrasing but you would have to look far and wide to find a nicer or more deserving man to have in the lead. Charlie is a first class individual. Gregg.

Mr. Big, he has the “Jake N Bake” family from Wendell Carter. They are from the Jaconettes family crossed with Baker’s birds.

Bigwilly and Jay,
I know that Charlie flies the Jake N Bake family but he also has been bring in some birds from Steve Agent over the last couple of years. Charlie would have to tell you more about that. I don't know what was in his kit or kits.

Actually, Charlie has two main families of birds that he keeps as separate lines, but flies together; the Jake n Bakes, as has been mentioned, and his Turner line....the best of which he calls his Super Cock line. I know that both were in his kit, but didn't confirm with him, the percentage of each. He played with a pair or two of NOrm Reed birds but said he hasn't gotten anything remarkable yet, from them. If he has any Steve Agent birds, he hasn't done much with them yet, either. The Turners and the Jake n Bakes are his bread and butter. He and I flew birds together all year evaluating and selecting performers and talking about feed. It's interesting that in the Spring World Cup and in the Fall Fly, how we would both came out on top 1-2 in our region and in the nationals, after coaching each other throughout the year, and in the face of some stiff competition. Yang, Any idea what line of Wendall's they are out of? He has a couple pair that are very productive. I have a Jake n Bake in my A-kit as well....by accident. He gave some birds to my brother who used to live with me and fly his jaconettes at my place, a year ago. I saw this bird dropping out of the kit 30 ft. with good speed and when I idenitfied it, it was one of my brother's Jake n Bakes! He let me keep it in the kit, when he converted to strictly Danny Horner Jacs, and it has flown in both the spring and fall competitions this year. YITS, Cliff

Ballrollers,
From my understanding there where some of the Agent birds in this kit and in the kit he flew in the regionals. I was told that one of the fastest birds in the regional kit was a bird out of the Agent birds. Maybe I'm wrong but all we have to do is ask Charlie to shed some light on this.

Cliff,
I talk to Charlie on a regular basis. From my many discussions with Charlie not only are the birds from me doing anything, but the best bird in his kit is out of my birds. About half of Charlies kit is out of my family of birds. In fact Charlie has never done anything in the Fall Fly nor the World Cup until he added some of my birds into his kits. Charlie and I are very good friends, therefore I am sure that he's not telling me lies about the birds progress.

Steve, I have heard nothing but the best things about your family of birds. I do not have a dog in this hunt. As I said, I flew birds with Charlie all summer. As we were selecting birds, the best performers, when I asked what family, he always said Supercock, South Carolina, or Jake n Bake. When Ken Easley,Brian McKenzie, Joe Bob, Jay, me and others were at his house flying the World Cup Regionals and Finals and the Fall Fly Regionals and Finals, when asked what birds he was flying, he always said the same thing....usually more Jake n Bakes than anything else. Sorry buddy, but he never once said Steve Agent birds. I'm not bustin' your chops or dissin' your birds, Steve. As I said I have heard nothing but the best about them. But Charlie must have told us what he thought we wanted to hear (????????) or told you what he thought you wanted to hear. Otherwise, I can't explain the discrepancy. (He did say on occasion that he had a Norm Reed bird in the kit) If he had said, "Steve Agent birds", you can bet I would have reported it accordingly. As I said, I have no axe to grind here, my friend. Thanks, Cliff

Steve, Another voice that has heard nothing but great words about the birds that you are working with. When something good is happening, word does get out.
Deadendkid, As Charlie put it, "it's not over with yet so don't go calling me a champion." Actually I was telling him not to let it spoil him, he is too nice of a person. I would probably second Cliff's opinion that Charlie would tell someone what they want to hear so as not to hurt any feelings. It would be completely in character for him. Gregg.

I talked to Charlie this past summer in ohio. and yes he is truly ,one of the nicest guys you can meet. We talked for quite a while in ohio, but that was far from fall fly time, so I havent a clue what birds he flew.
All I can say is congratulations to Charlie!!!!! ---------- Butch @ Sundance Roller Lofts
