Does the feathering color of a bird dictate the beak coloring?..Looking at a few pics, I noticed that the darker the feather color, the darker the beaks, and vise versa.
Black/Blue birds = dark beaks
White/Red birds = white beaks

Not true Jerry. I have white self birds with black peak. I have light tortes shell with black peak. I have blue bar w/f/t with ivory peaks. The black peak is from the smoky factor in the genes.

As Jay just stated the flesh colored tip or Horn beak is caused by the bird having the smokey factor. The color of the bird is really irrelevent. Joe ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

Hi
This family was imported in 1971 and then again in 76 out of the same loft.
So for over thirty years the gentle man never introduced anything into his family. This family is not very active but rolls beautifully they came from Ken Whites loft in England and he believed he could breed a good looking roller and quality spinner.

so why do most people prefer a bird with pearl eye.clean beak.and clean leg?...
That would be a personal preference!..Just like what kind of undies you wear, what color towel you dry off with, etc...use what works for you.

The color of one beak has nothing to do with the roll. But it a good question worth looking into.

The black beak is caused by color factor carried by the bird. It will either be dirty or smokey or both. Dirty known as verdunkel will also cause black toenails. If the squeak is black beaked and black legged it is verdunkel. It has absolutely no effect on rolling ability just a color factor just like any other.
