This chart shows how I made my strain. It is for all practical purposes everything that my family is made from. I have found it very helpful to look since I made the original.

Got spin, I can answer that question as Paul already shared where the qualmond and almond came from. He bought it at a feed store and has no back ground on it. Paul crossed it, Feed store Almond into his family. Paul, do you know who bred that Almond or what it's background is? Now that I see it has thrown andilusion also, I would like to know the back ground of that Almond. Maybe it was a George Gulla bird. He was the original color breeder! KGB

Good memory KGB...sort of... I bought the White Almonds father from Brooklyn Pet Shop in East L.A. He was banded NBRC 73 #5098.. I mated him to NBRC 72 #3220 that I borrowed from Cornell to start my "Almond project". The white almond was the bird that brought the genes for all that color into my strain. Gotspin.. Right.... The birds you mentioned are all the original "crosses".. but I don't like using that term because of you know who.. LOL..!!
By the way Kenny... I heard Gulla did actually cross out to other breeds.. I think it was him that brought those white bars into rollers.. Also I remember that he crossed Archangel in... Cornell was really mad at him because he borrowed one of Cornell's birds and crossed it on something wierd like that.. I'd also be curious to know who bred that "Pet Store Almond" cock... Actually, I got him from Aubrey Sinclair who told me that he got him from that pet shop. At the time I trusted that a NBRC would be pure roller, especially since Pensom had suggested that I join that club.. but matbe you know some reason that should doubt it... Anyways...it's about 30 yeard too late to start worrying about it. Gomez

Paul, With so much talk about not breeding from birds that are or were not proven in the air, and with you breeding from birds purchased from a feed store, do you think that your getting birds in that manner, and breeding from them, is going against the grain?.. How can you say that you know anything about how that bird performed, when you got it from a store?..Just curious.
Not to be negative, but to start a family with such a bird?.. I know you say performance is 1st for you, but in my eyes, not in that manner.

Paul What made you use those birds from the pet store was it the color alone or was it their body type?

Rollerman, I'll try to remember.. I was back in the 60s and 70s.. First the almond I got was one of the few I had ever seen. He was really too big for me, but I figured that I could breed the size down.. So I guess it was his color..because that's what I was trying to do.. Breed almond rollers. In my old roller book I wrote: Jan, 9, 1975-- Next Objective: Almonds perfect color 5 different distinct colors ---No white--- will roll 15' will roll in proper fashion The pair of spangles were some of the most beautiful rollers I had ever seen at the time.. I reallu didn't know too much about body type back when I got those birds Paul

Paul - Were there any McCully birds used in your line (8899)blood and were the birds bred in open loft or individual pens?

Laron, I don't have that 8899 blood anymore. Glenn Eason has a lot of it though.. What I had came by way of Byron Destout. Do you know how I can find the old NBRC records from 1973? There was an almond cock I had back then that I got part of my almond color from. NBRC 73 #5098. Paul
