tou,
in building you cage/loft keep in mind it will never be done.
their will always be something you want to add or re-do.

in my case I will totaly re-do my breeder boxes in the next 45 days.. and I will build two kit boxes I haven't told my wife yet...;-)

kewl, i didn't really take time to build my loft either only like 4 days. RxR is so correct there is always something that wants to be redone or add. My loft is only 8'x 8' and approx 4' in the back and 5' in the front. It took me like 10 trips to home depot lucky i live only 2 miles away. Even right now i still want to redo/add some perches and nest boxes.

tou,

Visit as many lofts as you can.
Take notes & pictures.
Then put together what works best for you.
Well ventilated,and animal proof
and in some places human proof.
Kept clean & simple, you will receive great pleasure from your birds.

Home Depot and Lowes sell a storage building kit. I saw it two weeks after I built my loft the exact same size and price.6x8x8
It has some of the things I didn`t buy. Sliding door and a window were a couple of things. Runs about $500 here.
One could take the materials and prints and probably get exactly what you want. Study it a little maybe buy an additional 4 feet of materials. Little tweak here,a little tweak there. Voila` one custom loft.

Vou,
You don`t have to have a million birds or a huge loft. Start small, think small but expandable. The nbrc has an 11 bird competetion. Your local club might have them as well.

Since quality is the watchword and Thom has stepped up with some quality stock that takes a lot of pressure off in the biggest category. Quality stock. You can breed a dozen birds with with two pairs and one pumper pretty quickly. Use one pair of your breeders as a foster the first round and the other the next. 12 birds in three months or there about. You don`t have to have a full sized kit box either. You could split a 4x4 and pull this off bro. While you are learning the ropes, collect materials and money for the real deal or expansion projects.

Over in Europe there are a lot of guys that fly 11 bird and less kits. Small boxes and lofts.
In the old days they flew 4-5 birds and sometimes head to head competetion for bragging rights at the pub.
Wayne and Ste can probably add to this.
good luck

fireball: i dont know my family of birds becasue i bought them from my cousin when i didnt know anything about flying rollers or keeping birds. but i do have some birds from pro breeders.

RxR: yea. i know, but the best loft i can do over the spring break when i am a kid is what i am aiming for. yes you are right. thanks for commenting.

yang501424: yea, but it is hard for me to rebuild or change things so i want to keep it the best way possible until i can support myself.

JT: yea, but i can only look at lofts online, which i know is still very good. and that is what i am trying to do.

velo99: well first, my name is Tou, not Vou. but thats ok. it sounds alike too. lol. i wont probably get to fly in the competition yet right, dont you need to be a member of the NBRC? i dont have 1 million birds and i am not planning to but just planning to get around 20-30 birds or so each year, or maybe it will change when i start to feel like i cant buy anymore feed or someting.
