After attending many shows and flies, I noticed the show champion and the performing champions look different. Has anyone else noticed this?

Keith - Absolutely! I have a couple of friends that always want to throw a bird in the show pen and say that this is the way a bird is suppose to look but they never have anything to fly and those same very birds do not perform that well. I am sure you have witnessed this as well. If you look closely at the birds that Bill Pensom called champions they do not look like the pigeons some say a bird is suppose to look like. I believe that a bird that spins correctly and has the correct style has the correct type for his individual body. Now if I have two birds equal in performance I will chose the one that I feel has the better and stronger body (Strong back, one tail feather, good feather and no wide primaries etc) but these characteristics alone does not guarantee anything. They have to have producing ability. Anyway, great post Keith

Smoke747, you are right your faster bird should have the thinner secondaires, refined and ventalated . For the lawn show champion and the excellent spinner type ,I guess it would depend on the lawnshow judge knowing what are the properties of the traits the spinner should have of a spinner because I have seen SPINNERS that are ideal type as hell, in the hand. I support and like lawn shows but I dont like to put birds in for show because of the difference of likes of the judge. R-LUNA

both these champions should support each other. the performer if bred correctly should show its worth on the ground as well as in the air. the show champ should be able to roll/spin with any flying champion but this is not always tha case

THOR, WHAT I'M SAYING IS THERE SHOULD NOT BE A DIFFERENCE. THEY SHOULD BE ONE N THE SAME. THIS IS OUR JOB AS BREEDERS OF TODAY.

KL, I know what you are trying to say. The truth is from my limited experience, it is all on the judge. The best performer plucked right out of the kit box is usually the first to get booted. I am not a big fan of showing just for show. I like it when the guys or gals brings in the best they have in the air and parades it for all to examine. I guess we all as fliers can dream that one day the best performer in the lot will also take the Show. Thor

JT, BUT ONCE IT IS STOCKED, IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPETE IN ANY SHOW FOR PERFORMING ROLLERS, DON'T YOU AGREE?
