I am going to be organizing a single bird champion fly this Spring, likely early May. The single bird will be flown with a kit and marked to be easily identified. the birds will be flown for 15 minutes and judged on: velocity, style, depth, frequency in that order of importance.

The judge will be either a single judge from out of the area or a panel of judges, all of whom have proven through their competition record to know a good spinner.

The judging area will be Yuba city to Tracy and anyone who lives withn 30 minutes or so of the highway 99 to I5 route can enter.

The fly will be sponsored by the NCRC and cost will be about $20 with plaques awarded to 1-3 place.

Any input on rules an how to conduct the fly will be considered.

Who's in?

Ken - The Spinning Birmingham Roller Club (SBRC) covered both Orange County and Riverside County. The PRC (Pensom Roller Club) now uses the same rules and is a National Club.

Can you send some info on the Pensom Roller Club? I had not heard that any such club existed since the old PRC folded many years ago. what is the clubs purpose and philosophy? Who is the president? How many members? what is the fly schedule if there are any flies?

I am very interested and I'm sure others are as well.

Thanks,

Firl

Laron,
I know a lot of guys that would love to get in a Birmingham roller club that is going to start flying competition. If this is what your working on, count me and many of my friends in! If this PRC is the same old show club it used to be, you will find little intrust. If your starting a national club movement to fly competition with Birmingham rollers. YEA HA!!! sign me up! KGB

Laron,
Do you have to prove that all your birds go back to Pensom in order to become a member of the PRC ?

LaRon,

my birds come down from Ken Easley. They are from Hilton - Destouet - Starley - Easley. Heavy 514.

Is that Pensom enough?

Ken - I did not get your e-mail. E-mail at the campus at ldoucet@spfldcol.edu

Keith - Give me a call or e-mail me your number. This is a great idea to restart the classic. I would love to assist and have some ideas for upgrading.

Ray - The answer is yes. The reason the original PRC folded was that the members could no longer say the birds were pure Pensom due to crossing with modena's etc.

Kenny - I would never be a part of a club that was show orientated using the name of the greatest roller man in history. The club is back to its original meaning. We really did not think that there would be much interest as I have seen a lot of bashing of Bill Pensom, his concepts, and beliefs which is a crime.

Hmm,

I thought a single bird champion roller ocmpetition would be very popular with some of the guys in Norcal that don't normally fly in the kit competitions but I received only one positive response. I know ther eis more than one guy in Norcal on this list.

I guess the backyard flyers will always be backyard flyers and that it's really not about not liking kit competition. It really is about not really being confident in your birds.

I will still do it through our guys in the NCRC and it willbe open to others. I'll post more details here as the day approaches and we get the details worked out.

Thanks Joe - I figure I could count you in. I think it will be a great way for some of the guys that don;t normally fly to get into the competition and also to see what real deal spin is without hving to worry about watching for breaks.

Ken
