I just got back into the hobby this year and a friend of mine helped me out by giving me some squeakers from his stock birds. I put everyone in the stock pen. I was able to breed out of some of them this year and was very happy with the results. ---------- Ray

Ray,
I heard how good your kit flew despite the attacks in the fall fly. You made a good decision in stocking these birds. Did your friend who gave you the birds suggest that you stock them?

Elfrin, We did discuss what would be the quickest way to get back into the hobby. I know many will tell you that there are no short cuts in this hobby when it comes to building a family of birds, but when you get squeakers that are all closely related, the family is already there. You just need to find the birds that are the best and go from there. This takes patience, allot of hours in your backyard and a understanding of the family your working with. It also helps if you start from the best quality stock you can find. I did not get a chance to prove out all the birds I put away like that, but this year I should have a better understanding of what birds are going to produce for me and what birds I will need to move on from. ---------- Ray

i think a person can stock from the nest if the birds are from a family that has been flying and winning competitions like the family that ray has if the birds come from a family that was only flown for the enjoyment of the breeder and not in competitions i would not even think about stocking a bird right off the nest i still think birds that are flown in competitions and win or finish always in the top 10 are better then birds that are not flwon in competions
