The more I think about those other birds being Homers the funnier it gets.
Mr. Sam is probably sitting there waiting for me to turn those birds out so they can go back home!
See if Y'all can tell me what I have in these other birds he gave me.
These are some Rollers Huh????????
Are they Reds and one Lavender????????

SD these do appear to be rollers. How purebred they are?I couldn't say.On the color end of the question,i'm no expert(to many variations)they're reds or checks and you have a cream colored bird in there. Are you interested in different breeds or just rollers? If you just want to raise quality rollers,do as most of us have done.Find a reputable breeder or go to a show and pick up some good birds.Im not saying your friend doesn't have good birds(only you could check that). Another option is,if you like these birds, breed them and fly out the young ones.If you like their performance, stick with them

Thanks Louis, Bull, Hector, I started trying several months ago to get started with Rollers after I saw some of Mr. Sam's birds fly from a mobile loft. I was out to find some Homer culls to train my pups with but after seeing the Rollers I just had to have some. Problem was Mr. Sam wasn't selling.
I tried to find some other Roller Fanciers around here and struck out. Then I stumbled on Tony's site and I now have 3 pair of Rubys.....then about 2 weeks ago Mr. Sam called and he has experienced another stroke and can no longer care for his birds so he gave them to me. These Rollers were in his breder loft. All the Reds are his birds, they go way back to the 10 pair of birds he started with in the 60's from Tennessee, the Lavender or Cream hen is banded "Tennessee Roller Duces" 04.
There are no records on these birds, there was a flood back in 94 and again in 98 and Sam's house was hit both times. He is 90+ and doesn't remember that well since the multiple strokes.
When he offered me the birds I could not turn them down.
I'm going to concentrate my efforts with the Ruby's and use these as fosters, I may raise some young off of them just to see what they will do compaired to the Ruby's young.
Thanks again,
SD

Yes, Ralph I can always use the culls with the pups, if they would Home better I could use them better, dizzy them, plant em and let the dogs get em up then back to the loft for another day.
The more I hear you guys talking about eating the culls, I guarantee I'll give them a try, wrap a big ole strip of bacon around them, put em on the grill.....Whoooo Boy.... I think I can smell supper. That or pot fry em and serve them over wild rice.
