Hey All, I just thought I would share this loft cleaning tip. I have started using a product made by Glad, called Press-N-Seal, it was designed for food storage and works great. Now, I use it to cover almost any surface in the loft. I keep the water above floor level on a half round shelf. Covered with the Press-N-Seal hardly anything sticks to it but it is not slippery and the birds have no trouble walking on it also it is waterproof.Perchs, shelves, wherever needed,it is scrapable and if torn easy to remove leaving a clean dry service to be recovered. Cheap in price and a roll goes a long way.

Thom, sounds like an idea worth trying. I am always short on time, so anything that helps with cleanup is valuable to me. I also hate for my loft to be dirty, although some times it is... I cover the nest box shelves with newspaper so all I have to do is roll it up and put down new about once a month or so. It also cuts the scraping, which in addition to being unhealthy for us ( I do use a mask) is just a pain.

When I quit breeding and break up the pairs I roll up the old paper, spray the surface with bleach water and lock up the box for a few months.

Thom,

Thanks for the tip, it sounds like I could use it on my many perchs.

Hey Guys, I forgot to mention that when it comes off the roll the sticky side will be down. As long as the surface you are putting it on is dry it will stick. I hope it helps with your cleanup!

Hey Thom,
I hate to be critical(no I don't!!!)but how much crude oil does it take to make that stuff that ends up in the landfill pretty quick?Sounds a little wasteful to me.We all gotta start conserving our resourses somewhere and it starts right at home in our lofts if we dare.Scape your bird poop and COMPOST IT!!!Reduse waste-Recycle-Re use. Please don't take offense, but think about it.If any of you guys an gals would like any tips on composting, just ask an I'll fill ya'all in no problemo.

Santandercol, I've hugged a few trees in my life and my wife and I try to live life as green as possible. Personally, I don't think composting pigeon poo and not using a box of Press-N-Seal will save the planet but if you do, then I'm on your side.
