A fellow club member tried a 20 bird kit of solid whites. Called White Lighting. BOP cleaned his clock.

HC, Strong looking white you got there. Reminds me a lot of the whites that come out of my family. Does the Plona/Smith whites count? I get them in both eye colors - pearl and orange. Mine are not true whites as they are merely just doubled up grizzles. Get about 4 to 5 a year. Only one would probably be worth feeding after the year. The rest either are too hot or nothing (no performance). Thor

Hector, I have a white family started with mine. I call my white family "The Wedding Bells". So far I have a half kit going. So far never got a cull or lost any to overfly or hawks for the two years breeding them. When I get an overfly, my whites are always back the second day. Sometimes after 4 days but never lost any. They start spinning at 7 to 9 months which is later than my other colors from the same strain. The breeder hen was a multiple depth hen with excellent control. The cock was gifted to me from the stock of original breeder because I wanted to start the white family. I never flew him and took his word for it. Next season, I am stocking a brother and sister which are whites and want to see what I would get.

These birds I have not seen fly, they were in Mr. Sam Pate's breeder loft. I have seen some from these birds fly from his mobile loft. I am so new I really am not able to say how well the rolled but roll they did, 20 maybe 30 feet. SD

Paul Platz purchased rollers from Bill Pensom and Ralph Hilton and bred a beautifull family of pure whites. Paul showed his family at many shows including the 1978 N.P.A. Grand National Show in San Diego, California. Steve Perry bought the entire stud after Paul Platz passed away. I purchased three pair from Steve and they were all orange eyed. My other white family has pearl eyes and i cross the two families. I flew two white hens in competition this year that were spinning 30-40 feet. They were stocked this year for next year. The white rollers that were posted were good looking specimens. Ray

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Paul's whites were also double factor grizzles. Never seen any of them in a kit per say but did see some nice individuals. The ones I seen were a bit longer casted birds but they could spin with the best of them. I would also add that although I never had any at my house the ones I seen at others seemed to be more susceptible to illness. Probably not the case throughout and more than likely isolated incidents but none the less it is what I noticed with them. ---------- J.M.Urbon Lofts A Proven Family of Spinners http://www.freewebs.com/jmurbonlofts/

I am steering away from double grizzle (white) birds. They never live through their first year (BOP)! There is no point in wasting my time with that kind of breeding as I will never get to see the results. Keith

Hector, I don't know that it's any harder. If he started with 2 pearl eyed birds then they would all be pearl eyed. But I always though the Platz trademark was that the birds were all orange eyed.

you're right paul platz's birds were known for being orange eyed not pearl. I had some of his birds before to play with. This was back in 95, the guy I got them from got his birds from Paul when he was still living. They were all orange eyed, although they would sometimes throw imperfect orange eyes, you know cracked eyes and whatnot. I didnt keep them to long as they didnt compare close to my father and I's family of birds so I lost interest quickly. (hey I was only 10!) My father had had a side project that were all white, a subfamily from our main one, they were all bull eyed but super fast and deep spinners. ---------- Gary

From what i seen Platz Roller are Orange eye for sure...Then later They become Pearl eyes in some Breeder Loft...I don't know how those Breeders did it...But I can asked the guy i got them from...He had them in Orange eye and he say something about inbred...Or etc...Then that's how he got them to have Pearl eye... ---------- Home of the Admiration of Flying Performing Pigeon

You guys are dead on. Paul took great pride in his birds very bright orange eye. I did not ever see a pearl, or bull eye, but that is not to say they did not get a few. Pacos Bill

I would bet that other birds were crossed with the Platz birds to get the pearl eye. I'm not sure about the original birds that Platz used but he seemed to have the gene for orange eyes fixed. Orange is dominant to pearl and you need at least one pearl eyed bird to produce pearl eyes from the youngsters. Any orange eyed bird with a pearl eyed parent will carry the gene for pearl. Mate the carriers together and you should get 25% pearl eyes.

Don't take it the wrong way guys.....
Are we here looking for birds that rolls or eye colors??? It don't matter if its PURE breed Platz birds with orange eyes...If it don't roll why keep it... Pure or not the question is it a roller??? Many line has been cross to meet the owners likely... Pearl or orange eyes...When people see it in the sky will everyone go WOW.... Orange or pearl its in the genes....Think about it...How did this line become white in the first place....
Just my 2 cent...

Hector, yes I know these birds....I had this line when I was living in Merced CA...These Platz white birds are not your small white roller...They are bigger in size and they did have the orenga eyes...I know they roll...All I'm trying to say is orange or pearl if they don't roll why keep...
I got the chance to fly these Platz and with the white heat...White heat are much smaller in size....Platz birds have control...White heat has speed and depth.... Its just me but I like speed in my rollers so I went with white heat... Its good that everyone still have these birds...Good luck to the guys who is still keeping this Platz line going...
Thanks everyone...
