I was informed by an old time flyer over here in the UK that Father Schlattmann was the first person to import pigeons over in the USA in 1932 so i did a little homework but this is all i could find on this subject.

In 1932 a Catholic priest who loved pigeons imported rollers from a young man named William H. Pensom, born and reared in Harborne, England. Father Schlattmann of St. Louis imported eight Birmingham Roller pigeons from Pensom and began breeding kits of rollers that were the envy of all who saw them.

Could any one tell me does any one fly direct birds Schlattmann family today?

Does anyone have any information on Schlattmann?

Wayne - Father Schlattmann died in an automobile accident in the 1940's. His birds were dispersed to many different breeders of the Pensom line of that time including Ray Perkins and others. His birds were known as "little blue birds" line. He also had birds from the original clay hen HRC-32-#5. Bruce Cooper has descendants of this hen but you are now talking 9 – 10 generations back. The HRC-32-#5 was basically the Bellfield blood.

Wayne - Anytime my friend. Also, I have a friend in England. His name is Bill McCrae. He can give you some serious history also. Bill is a nice guy.

Rudy - I did see the pictures of your birds where did they originate? They look great!

Wayne. Here is some info from my collections of writings.Don't know how valid it is but I keep it anyway.Hope you enjoy.Rather lengthy and with my 2 finger typing took awhile.LOL.
Father Schlattmann's 1936 importtations were all old birds, flyers and breeders.NBRC 2139 BlackSaddle Cock was described by Pensom as a Champion, not a better roller alive. He was by a good Red Badge Cock from a Black patched hen, full sister to the Dun hen HRC 31 1613.
NBRC 344 was a Black Mottled Cock described as a Champion and a deep one.
NBRC 2142 was a Red Self Cock with a White feather in his tail.
NBRC 2153 a Red Cock ticked with White, was of Champion calibre and produced some great ones mated to 2138 Red Spangle Hen.
NBRC 2138 Red Spangle hen was a daughter to the old Red Spangle cock.
MRS 521 a Champion in the air.and one that Pensom said would produce a good one with anything. This was a truly great hen and in 1941 LeRoy Smith,Ray Perkins and Farher Schlattmann arranged to mate her to the Red Spangle Cock HRC 29 4630 a son of 521 in order to perpetuate the old Red Spangle blood. The resulting youngsters were outstanding in type, color and performance. After studying and showing a pair of these for years Perkins offered Smith 50.00 for the two that he had left, but Smith would not sell. The close up blood of 2138 has always been of great value to Pensom breeders regardless of what cock she was mated to.
NBRC 35 428 Dun Badge hen, nestmate to NBRC 35 429 Red Checker Cock imported by Smith in the Riches shipment was described by Pensom as follows.A great favorite,Shown and Won,Will make a Champion and bred from the Worlds best hen,Sire to 428,is also Sire to your good Dun Badge Cock HRC 33 23 and said Sire is a full brother to my Dun Hen 1613,It nearly broke my heart to part with 428.This hen was of course a daughter of the great 40 161 pair and she produced many fine offspring that are carying on in the 40 161 tradidition.
NBRC 1452 Black Badge Hen and NBRC 1458 Red Self hen completed this shipment. Most of the birds in this shipment were outstanding selections of Pensom from the Loft of Harry Bellfield.

That wore me out.Time for a nap.LOL. David
