Hey All, I found the perfect purpose for color. Each evening I spend an hour in the loft, I try to handle each bird at least once. My therapy!!! Anyway, I handle all the red chks. first(my favorite) then the blues, red bars next, then......You get it! The perfect use of color! ;-)

Hi Thom

You know that in the roller game "Perfect vision is being color blind"

Must be why so many of us have trouble telling the color of our birds

I guess that's why I can't see shit with 20/20 vision.

My Ruby Rollers are in the Red colors, but I have one black out of the Rubys that made it a year and I put in the breeding loft.

Robert, I also am breeding from Ruby's, have three blacks, I am also color blind. I was just poking a little fun and mean no disrespect to any one or their birds. If we can't laugh at ourselves then we are in trouble. I feel that everyone on this site has his or her own reason for breeding rollers, and these reasons are as diverse as there are people. It's all good!!!!

Hi Thom

I was also just poking fun with the comment I made to you,
Because so many take the color part way too serious.

"Perfect vision is being color blind" Just sounds good to me.

The one black out of the Rubys I have left just came into the roll when I put it away. I had two but Cooper got one. I have a real hawk problem around here. I like the Rubys very well and they add a lot of stability to my loft, Tony has done a good job with them. My other birds are a little on the hot side.

I noticed this year the hawks and the falcon were after only the blacks in my family and nothing else.

I lost over 75 birds in 2007, only 2 to the Red Tails, about 5 to the Peregrines and the rest to the Coopers.

The Coopers did go after the blacks more this year around here also, too bad they don’t go after the commies.

With the Coopers I have noticed that when 1 leaves another 1 or pair comes. The Coopers just slack way off from April to September, the rest of the time they are serious hunters.

I have a roller friend about 2 miles away and I notice the same Cooper at his house after leaving my area. The Cooper spent about a month at each house. The Cooper was missing some tail feathers and looked bad all the time so we could pick him out.

Canspinners, You are right, it is very pleasant to have bird in hand but also practicle. There is no better way to keep up with their conditioning. I think everyone on this list cares for and enjoys their birds, I just might be a little more vocal, thats all. An amazing little ball of feathers we have. And Welcome to this great site!
