Tou, When you are finished with your breeding program for the year, seperate your cocks and hens that you have been breeding from. Most are finished with their breeding for the year atleast by August or September.

Tou, If you want to get really deep into it it is best to seperate the sexes in all of your boxes. When you do that they will concentrate more on what you want them to do in stead of mating and competing for a mate. You can release them and fly them together. When they land they should go to the respective boxes, just keep am eye on them. Sometimes they will pair up a same sex couple. Usually no big deal. The hens will lay eggs but just throw them away.

Listen, Breed your birds always, because when you stop you wont have any to fly so breed all year around,so you have plenty of birds to choose from...

It's best to separate them around Aug-Sept.They should be done breeding because any young you have at this time probably will get taken by the BOP before they start rolling.Separating them at this time also gives them a much needed rest to go through a proper moult. If you over breed they will not last long,so take care of your good producers by fostering and resting them!
Just my 2 cents!

tou, your q: how many young can you get.. based in the time it takes a squab from hatch to kit box ( aprox 45day) a breeder can get aprox 14-16 young.. and more if you foster...
this year I started late... only 4 pairs.. my first egg was laid 7-14-07
from 7/14/07 to today I have had 30 eggs laid 24 young and lost the other 6
so had I started earler in the year I could have had over 64 young give or take..
I use the double next bowl system ---------- Rudy RxR Loft Roll'em if you got'em...

Tou you shouldn't let them care for more than 3-4 rounds in the season. You can obviously breed the heck out of them but like i said before they'll wear out and the offspring will not be as good!

Tou is simple. If your breeders are well taken care of and in excellent condition,so will the offspring. If not so will the offspring! You want birds that are top of the line right from the nest!!RIGHT??

i have 3 kit boxes, for just flying young birds out of, and now I'm making a new loft for breeding birds, that would be split in half so that you could separate the sexes once you are done breeding. You can't breed all year long straight or you will risk them getting sick and dying on you. ---------- Ralph....
