Nice pics, you might want to resize them in the future! They will fit better! To do that, while their still in photobucket, click on the picture, it will pop up larger, then above the picture, you will see a resize box and click on it. You should get 4 sizes to choose from. I use the one that says "Message Board 640x480". Yours might not be the same, but that one works for me! Keep messing with it and you will get it!

Welcome aboard, nice loft and birds!

Thanks tou and sky. You would not be jealous if you saw my previous lofts . This is a dream come true after keeping pigeons for 40 years . I think i did it right this time. Some of the birds in the pics whites nad yellows need to be proven. They look good but we will see this spring if their offspring spin thats if the raptors don't get them first. I lost 35 youngsters this year. Who cares any ways i love breeding the birds and watching the young mature into adults especially after their first moult.these birds originated and are from aline of birds from florida not sure what family.

I also have some bob brown birds which I will post at a later time

Thanks gotspin7 I just moved and built my loft this spring it is the result of all the great information shared by all on this web site. I saw a lot of great lofts over the years on this site and read alot of great information which helped give me ideas . I am now working on geting my bird settled and sorted . SO many great birds in the USA awsome clubs and dedicated roller men. Nice to see the young guys still interested in one of the greatest hobies in the world it kept me out of alot of trouble in myt younger days and also helped to build a great relationship with my dad and many great pigeon people.

Thanks for the positive comments to all, just want to answer some of the questions

I am from toronto canada , the reason i built such a nice loft is so the neighbours would not complain. Up here we have some real idiots that hate birds and do not mind their own business. I had to tear one coop down due to its size and rebuild this one.Made it nice to keep them happy.

the inspectors came by because a complaining neighbours call. he looked at the coop and said good luck bro everything is per code. I really like the kit box idea that i viewed on this site and tried it out it works great i had a nice kit of about 21 birds that would come down and land on the grass . this lasted a couple of weeks the cooper hawk and perigrine spooked half of them away.

O well i got my breeders will try again next season.I got three good youngsters that I stocked. Love the birds and hobby. When iwas akid my dad and i would drive al over the place visiting different pigeion breeders just to look at their birds .

Now i get to see so much more through the computer some amazing birds and coops. U guys are luckey in the us at least you can ship birds to each other such a hassle to send birds over the boarder . I love the ruby rollers.

This spring I am going to get some great sppinners from a really good pigeon man here in Canada. Stan Arnolds birds are pure penson going back almost 40 years. I especially want a pair of crested birds they spin 30-50 feet fast .

Rolldown can you explain further please your rational?

"Canspinners" does not equal Stan

I gave stan a call the other night to ask him about the birds i have posted as he knows the breeder i bought them from.

I got talking to stan, i have never met stan but I did talk to him a couple of times toget advise on rollers and which lines are good.

Stan is a straigt talker stand up type of guy he tells it the way it is and does not BS

Ihave some frends that have been over to Stans and they have told me his pensoms have great spin infact they testefied that some of the crested birds spin better(faster and a deeper spin) than the non crested as seen by their eyes.

Iasked stan where the crested birds originated from and he told me they were raised off his pensoms. I believe stan.

The way i see it is stan has had these great pensoms close to over forty years if the bloodline close then they could have threw some crested birds as a fault.

Why would anyone want to cross a roller to what? a helmet that doesnt spin . besides if the crested birds were crossed i am sure they would not spin the way they do.

How do you explain some of the pensoms ihave observed on the site that are muffed or featherlegged with extra long feathers are they not pensoms?

Real nice digs Can.
My wife told me again to get it all under one roof, and get rid of the "Pigeon Ghetto". I saw a building a company has produced here in town that would fit the ticket most admirably. They have financing!! :) I drew up up a plan a while back and have circulated it to a few friends of mine for advice and it seems to be approved and certified.:)

I have been working on my yard, got some trees the other day and plan on adding a koi pond over the winter. It`ll take me that long to dig it.Gotta get my yard all spiffed up and presentable, paint the outside of my house too.

Hey Rudy!! You and Rob come on up. We`ll cook a side of beef and buy a keg. Bring that big ol boy of yours too. I bet a paintbrush would fit his hand quite nicely.

Kel,can you spare some koi advice ? I sure would like to visit with you a little on the pond subject. Yours looks mahvelous.

Thanks Velo99 like isaid earlier iwould have not gone so fancy on the loft except for the complaining neighbours. It is easier having the breeding loft and kit boxes. Our winters are bad the birds need the shelter from the winds and snow. the xtra windows give the lots of sunlight.

In the past some of best birds have come out of some coops that i had made out of crates.went on to your web nice birds icould not get the slide show to work i like the white in that pic

Hello, Canspinners. I certainly didn't want to start an argument but if I were you I would insist on seeing a pedigree on those crested birds. Anyone who has been keeping Pensoms for 40 years would certainly have kept pedigrees of their breeding. I was a member of the Pensom Roller Club for several years starting in the late 1960's and never kept a bird on the property that wasn't pure Pensom. I have some pedigrees that go back to 1923.In all this time I have never heard of or seen a crested Pensom. Bill Pensom has stated that some of the earlier Birminghams had small muffs on their feet and feathered legs and I have had some myself.( Didn't care much for them though.)
If anyone has ever heard of a crested PURE Pensom roller please feel free to correct me on this.

Thanks for your response rolldown ,your comments definately not taken as an argument.Irespect your point of view based on your experience which is alot more than ihave right now if you asked me about pensom 5 years I would have said who whats a pensom? thats what this site is for to help us all network and learn form each other.

Although iam new to pedigrees etc with rollers etc iam not new to pigeons have been involved with them for over 40years I have learned to respect the more senior members in the hobby as their dedication to the hobby has been longer than some of our lifetimes.

I like to ask questions and learn. iwill ask for pedigrees but may be the crested birds come into the breeding prior to Stan Arnolds time,

I have another senior freind here who has Bob Brown birds who tells me that bob brown line of birds were tops they beat the barret birds and the pensom birds in england any ways. when he visited bob brown in england to get his stock birds imported he tells me bob browns house was full of trophys he basically won most competitions.Aparently bob brown ,bill barrett and bill pensom were frends.

I asked my friend the if bob brown was so good why is it that i never here anyone talking about his birds .Ihave searched the whole web and can"t find anything. tons of talk about pensom birds none on brown or barrets.

He also told me that bob brown was one of the few to keep documented recoeds of his birds and also pedigres he stated next time some one says how pure the pensom birds are ask them "WHY DID PENSOM NOT KEEP ANY RECORDS OR WHY CANT ANY BE FOUND" (please correct if this is incorrect)

And i will follow-up with my friend (No disrespect intended towards Mr PENSOM) From what ihave read Mr pensom liked to get birds from alot if different sources as long as the bird preformed in the air he obtained alot of different stock from alot of different coops. If that is the case the maybe the crested birds go way back to some past blood line . Please help me to understand some of this if you have additional information

To Be honest with you my life was alot simpler when i just knew a spinners as a spinner and not by blood line.

I currently have brown birds ,and pensom birds and others. Can you let me know of you are aware of brown line of birds

Hi, Canspinners. I haven't heard of the line of the birds you are trying to look up. Maybe someone will see your post and hopefully can help you. It's true that Pensom acquired a lot of birds from the best breeders in Birmingham but I never heard that he didn't keep proper records. Like I say, I have never heard of any Pensoms with crests, but I have seen some crested Hungarian ( Budapest I think? ) rollers that spun very deep, although they weren't very tight. It would be very easy to cross these with Pensoms and not lose the roll etc. Maybe you could start a new thread and ask if anyone has ever seen or heard of crested Pensoms. If there are, someone out there will have them. Good luck,- George.
By the way, NICE SETUP!!

Hello, Canspinners: I used to have a few pure pensom yellows. Looked very much like the one in your picture. Yes they certainly could spin, in fact I had to wait to see if they were rolldowns before I could stock any as they had a tendency to be too deep sometimes. Actually well I am not new to rollers, I have been out of them for quite a while and am just starting back with them. Am converting my garden shed into a breeding loft and will build some kit lofts in the spring. I have been reading this website for a few months and I think I have read every post. Although I am retired, I still travel quite a bit and am hoping to find someone reliable to look after my birds when I am away. The internet is so handy for anyone starting out as you can learn right away what took me years through trial and error. I was worried about the effect on the birds being locked up when I'm absent, but it sounds like others do it sucessfully. Regards.

Can spinners - Some historical data based on my observations and breeding. Pensom rollers do not have crest. All of the breeders, and I know many of them, who have the Pensom family directly from Bill Pensom, Howard McCully and Smith never bred a crest. The breeders today also do not breed crest rollers. Did Stan get his birds from Jean Favreau?
If we were to use a hypothetical and say the old timers bred one they would kill it as it would have been considered a genetic fault in Birmingham Rollers.

Roll down - Can you elaborate in detail regarding the Yellow’s that you are speaking of that you quoted as "Pure". Were they derived from the Bob Evans stock and if not what is the origin?

La Ron,
i want you to come to my house one of these days,
One of the Crest i got from a friend of mine is out of his Jaconnet line,i dont know much about that line but it sure produces roll and i mean fast. The other crest are from regular back yard breedes that hapen to come up with it,eventhough they had no other breed besides rollers.
Many years ago in the 80s,i had a pair of Bob Scotts(pure Pensom).one pair for an unknown reason started producing young with 2 toes in the back of ther feet unstead of 1.
I bred about 8 that way,it made it hard to band so i broke up the pair,Now would you call them pure even if they where diferent, duble toes in the back is not how they wher bred to be but it poped up,why cant anything els pop up?
Hope to see you soon.Hector C

Hector - I am not disputing that the birds are not great performers. This is quite on the contrary. We know that there are all types of rollers that can perform. However, some of these guys are using Bill Pensom's family of pigeons name in vein. For example, if you look at the Crest that are coming out of Canada and look at the Crest, white bars and opals in those families. There is a guy that called me the other day to join the PRC and he has laces, opals etc and stated he had pure Pensom's. Those are not Pensom family (strain) pigeons! This is not to say that the Pensom strain is the best family etc as some have so misinterpreted my writings and beliefs. This is the strain for me but it may not be the strain for others needs and that is just fine. Just don’t show me a trumpeter and tell me it is a parlor. As far as the toes go this has happened before. Spanky is my friend and he speaks highly of you and I know you have performers.

pureVendré a su casa con spanky pronto.

Hi, 3757:
I got a yellow from Jerry Selinger up here in Ontario, Canada. His birds originally came from a fellow named Stew Lemond, who brought them up here from California in the late 1950's. I believe most of them originated from Stan Plona, who was apparently a friend of his. With no roller shows to speak of up here, we weren't tempted to breed them for show, so only bred them to fly and spin. Jerry never added another bird to his originals and has kept the same strain for all these years, breeding them much smaller than the originals. Every roller I ever owned traced back to his. He wasn't much for breeding for color, only for spin but he pretty much had them all. He rarely would breed from a soft colored bird like black, white, or red, preferring the dark red and blue checks and grizzles and torts. I could get more info possibly if you want to E-mail me at: rollerfanatic@yahoo.com

Rolldown - Thanks for the information. I know a little about Jerry Selinger and he was a flying man. Jerry, if I am not mistaking is still alive. Correct me if I am wrong. I will e-mail you soon. I believe the yellows he got from Stan were off of the ones Stan imported from England. Stan later purged these but it had nothing to do with the performance.

I have heard of jerry salenger but never contacted him or have seen his birds. The breeder i ot the yellows and whites from gaurenteed they would spin.Sounds like they may have originated from the individuals metioned.

Canspinners,
Jerry is alive and well although his eyesight is not as good anymore. He stopped using personalized name bands long ago as he is so well known that a few unscrupulous breeders would keep any that they managed to stray in, knowing they were his. I hope to see him in the near future as we only live about 30 minutes apart, near Hamilton, Ontario. I talked with him on the phone last week and he is having a real problem with the cooper hawks when he flies his kits. I hope the weather will be good enough for him to fly them for me, but we are expecting a big snowstorm here on December 16th ( about 2 feet or more )so may have to wait for better weather. I guess you will be getting hit with it also in Toronto.

Rolldown, I would like to ask you when would you put the birds together for breeding?

I usually put them together mid March, is this to late given are short flying season in Ontario?

I know some of the roller guys have tried pairing their birds in mid febuary and the homer guys in january so that the young can moult out quicker and compete with adult feathering.

Since you are in Ontario do you mind emailing me your phone number and I will give you a call. I would like to talk with you further if possible my e-mail is jkouzos@sympatico.ca

Hector were in the states are you from?
