tou vang, When I offered you a pair of my Ruby young birds I did not know how opposed your parents were to you having any birds. Also I did not know how many birds you already have. I am not comfortable with sending you more birds that will add to your already existing problems. Instead of birds I am offering advice. I think that if you reduced the amount of birds you now have it would be easier for you to feed, house, and learn to manage a kit of rollers. I would suggest a kit of 12 to 16 no more then that. I also think that you should stop breeding for a few years and just manage this number of birds. This will accomplish several things. It would take some of the stress off of you, it would show your parents that you can be responsible and give you a greater understanding of the birds you have now. One kit-box would be enough for this amount of birds. Of course this is only a suggestion and you will do as you please but I encourage to think about it very carefully.
I wish you the best of luck and a lifetime of rollers.

Thom

Tue, how old are you? Their is a couple of guys who fly rollers in your area...I think you know Dave? I think he can work with you...He's a real nice guy...

My advice is:
By reading some of your post it seems like you have to many family of rollers and still looking for more rollers by words of mouth...
You should cull all the birds that isn't rolling or kept for looks...Start with only a few pair of breeder and one kit of flyer...Until you get the hang of flying don't keep to many family around...
If you don't know how to pick which birds you should keep ask a guy in your area whos been flying birds for awhile to help you out...

I agree with Andy. It's probably best to work with one family.

Too many birds take the fun out of it.

If it seems like a chore or a second JOB,
you have too many.

Sounds like Tou is developing a plan, finally.
I keep one box with an 11 bird kit til the wintertime. Then I have a little room to spread out and the birds aren`t fighting for seed and a perch. I think I have about 10-12 spots between the three boxes.
When spring time comes I only have to dump 10-12 to have room for the 20 or so I plan on breeding. Then thru attrition over the season I will lose 4-5 and cull 4-5 and be right back to the comfortable winter level next December. Should have 7-8 birds from each of the two pairs I plan on breeding next season.
Even with 3 kitboxes I still think small. There is no reason I can see to have each box crammed full all the time. Too much hassle & chance of disease from overcrowding during the winter. It is an easy way to reduce the stress on the birds. Having 48 kitbirds I can reconfigure any way I want to have an appropriate number of birds for the various comps in the spring.

Tou,little brother you have been given a lot of advice and scenarios. There are a lot of us with our curiosity aroused now. Do us proud, make the right moves,we will be behind you 100%.
