hey you guys, I bred a nice little fellow band number 43 with a friend's personalized band for address band. I had him about 6 months ago before he flew off, why did it take this bird so long to come back and what may have caused it to fly away in the first place? no hawks, no wind, no homingpigeons.. help me out I'm confused, this guys is going into my stomache because his line is nothing but deep rollers and rolldowns, but confusing why it would take 6 months for a roller to automatically fly away when it is young and then fly back, flew away from the loft only once and dissapeared for what seemed like a lifetime, only to return, am confused why a roller like this would take forever to come back, can someone help me out...

He must of rollered down in somebody’s backyard and was picked up by the kids or the people living there. They kept the bird since they caught it until it was released intentionally or by accident and found home. He must’ve not been very far all this time, a block or two away from home....My guess.

Hi Guys;
Several years ago I lost a grizzle from my portable kit, about 60 miles away from my home. Went back and checked the area a couple of times and never saw a feather.
6 weeks later a bird came zooming in and circling my kit at a location they were frequently trained at 60 miles from where I lost the bird. It was my grizzle and he was healthy with a full crop!. Al

You just never know when it comes to birds. I like using birds that I have raised to put in the kitbox and fly. They have NO memory of anything but today, this loft and this kitbox.

some birds do have more homing ability than others. A friend not far from me gave some birds away a few years ago. that guy kept them a couple years. He gave them to anouther guy who kept them about a year, THEN.. he gave some to a forth guy. One of those original birds showed up back at the original guys house. Wierd, Huh?
