Finally finished, all that's left are the perches and birds to sit on them. I have 6, 07 birds just starting to roll.
Much thanks to all who have posted pictures, I borrowed ideas from many to try to get what I think I need.

Well come on down Val, I had to cut some of those boards three times and they were still too short.

Now that it's done, I see some things I'd do different next time.

"Semper Fi" Thom, I still have all ten but some are shorter than others. I think I can still lock and load.

Ray, each compartment is 4' X 32" X 48" at front, 46" at the back. I think I will be able to put 22 or so birds in each side. I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether to use V perches or box perches. Is there an definitive advantedge one over the other?

Snake I like the V-perches,because the birds are never standing on there crap,it falls on the side of perch ,I use to use the box perch but there feet was always on the crap and it gets messy, the only good thing about box perch is you can get more birds in the kit box,but i rather have less perch like 20 or 25 and not have it so crowded that it causes stress on the birds.. what it boils down too is what you prefer. check out my perches.after the birds come in through trap holes i have in middle of pen cage i have attach next to kit box..I take perches out one by one and scrape, or put a samll tray and scrape and drop it on tray instead of adding it to the ground below ,which you have a draws i notice so it don't matter in your case..

I have a light for cleaning at night if i come home late..that light works with 4 double A battery .its great ,and that lil door you see on the door its my peekaboo window i watch them at night to see if they are dancing on their perches check for mites.. this way i don't open the big door and disturb the birds..
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket hope this might help you decide..

Yes, I'm a 3 coat painter, one on me, one on the ground and one on what's supposed to get painted. In the Corps we usually let the Navy paint for us. LMHO

Thanks Ralph for the look at your set, how much space did you allow between the perches? I like the spy hole and light.

I see one thing I wish I had done, that is to put the trap in the middle of the front, instead of the top left.

I am leaning toward the V perch just for ease of clean up, I'm fairly methodical about things (wife says organized to the point of boredom) make a plan, work the plan.

Hey Snake,
Great job!! Now I know who to call when I need a couple new boxes built.LOL

One thing you may want to consider on your next kit box project and that's a double trap. That way your birds will be able to get inside the kit box faster. The faster they get inside the less of a target they are to the BOPs.

Thanks Robby, I went to your site and saw your set up, wish I had looked at it when I was in the planning stage, great Idea to have double trap, I think I can retro-fit an additional trap in these befor I paint.

SD,
I like the box perches, but there a little harder to build. From what I can see that should not be a problem for you. Here is a photo of the 3 hole kit box I built this year. Each hole holds 24 birds. Its about the same size as your box, except there are 3 compartments.
I bet you could do 30 perches per box easy.....

Thanks Ralph I would appreciate the site for the light.

I like the triple box, I haven't thought about putting more than 22 birds to the box, isn't that the limit for a 20 bird kit in competition?

Don't know if I ever will fly in comp. but I'm gonna give it my best shot if the opportunity should present itself.

SD,
Yes 20 is the max, but, how many times a year do you think you will be doing that. The idea is to be able to fly out as many birds as you can in one year so that you will have more birds to choose from when you put your competition team together. So, the more you can fly out of those boxes you just built, the better chance you will have at putting together a good team for competition.

Well with that bit of information I may as well maximize each side. I'll have to get the tape out and see how many v perches will fit and what I could do with box perches.

Thanks Ray for the info.

Thanks Ralph for the light site, have you tried a red bulb to see if the red light would disturb the birds less than white light, I use a red head light all the time going in and coming out of the woods, it doesn't spook the game like white light and doesn't mess up your night vision either.

I do have a plan of sorts, not a blue-print, it consists of about 8 sheets of graph paper, there was a continuing revelation as I would see different kit boxes and take what I liked from them. Shoot me your email and as soon as I get it in a usable form I'll scan you in a copy.

Snake these lights are not as bright as the regular white lightbulb that we have in our house, is like 40% less brighter,i really like them don't bother the birds.

Hey Bman I love your loft idea. I am in the process of building a loft and I like your setup. I am interested in a very similar setup. I do not have alot of space and I need to do everything in one (Breeding, Flying, Break up). Could you please send me a still picture of your loft and the dimensions. I want to build mine very similar to yours. If you have the amount of material it took that would also be great. Please post or send the specifications to my email address at (gator45juice@yahoo.com or gator45juice@hotmail.com)

Thanks, Gator!

Gator, the basic building is 8' x 8' with four flyouts.
Two on either side and a fifth inside facing forward.
I don't know if you can cram all your needs into that.
I'll send you a couple of pics and a rough sketch tonight.

Snake or Doctor...I prefer to call you Doc(lol)...Just a hint that will help you for easy maintenance. For the tray, I use the weed block roll that you purchase from any hardware store and cut it to size to fit the tray. When time to clean, all you have to do is grab it from each cross corner and put it in yard plastic bag and take it to the curb. Cut a new piece and you are in business for the next month cleaning. It will give more time to enjoy your birds than cleaning.

Thanks for the tip Jay, call me either I'll answer to most, Pop always said that the letters behind a name, BSE, MSE, ThD are like the curl in a pigs tail, makes the pig purty but don't make a bit more pork.
