Hey Fellas. Isnt it sad that we have to fly our birds afraid to death thinking that the BOPs could hit at any given time? How do we really know that we are breeding the best bird when we can only fly 3 or 4 months out of the year? Just asking

I know the feeling out of 80 young this year only left with 10....Geuss what though saw a family of grows or ravines the other day making alot of noise in the air .flying just below them was the cooper they were chaseing after him. It is the first time in about 20 years that i have seen this family of grows inthe area hope they settle in and move out the coopers.
Anyone else know if grows or ravines can drive out coopers ?

Breed fly and wish that they will make it back. That is all any flier can do. A must is also share your birds to good friends. Some guys have it better than others in the BOP department. No use to have these birds if you are afraid to fly them. Just my take, Thor

I'm not going to throw them out for feed, but if I wanted something pretty in a cage it would be my lovely bride.(Hope she dosen't see this) The whole point is to fly them otherwise why even have them?

We all know how it feels, specially when you think a bird is going to be one of the best in the kit and then it's gone.
The worst part is when they are young and you loose more than one from the overfly and the two nest mates are two of them.
You know what, it's my fault for flying during BOP season.
This year I lost around 15 or less birds. I have them lock down again and releasing them back in April.
We have to understand how they hunt, if they know there's food they come back to the same place.
If you keep winning money in a slot machine will you change in to a new one or stay? If you keep loosing on a slot machine you better move.
If we all lock down are birds they will leave us alone. They don't go for street birds as much they like are birds a lot more.

Hey Canspinners, Yes, ravens will harass coopers until they leave the area. Coopers eat raven nestlings in the spring and will attack mature ravens when food sources are scarce in the winter. I feed my pack of 5 old bread in the winter months and leave a large bird bath full of water in the summer months to entice them to set up near my house. They have saved quite a few young birds from sharpies and coopers and also will let you know when a raptor is in the area before you fly. Pay attention to thier cackles at all times as they are the only defense some of us have! Otis
