Hey all, I thought I would post a few pictures of my loft. There are three compartments, cocks, hens, and youngbirds. All three compartments are as alike as I can make them, so I will only show the hens, and cocks. Each outside section has a window for ventilation. All the water stations are up off the floor and I pick up the feed trays so there is no potential problem with mice. There are removable panels that keep the hens and the cocks from seeing each other in the off season. The floor is wood with white sterilized sand, and I strain it each morning to remove all the dropings, spilled food, and feathers. Any spilled water clumps just like it was in cat litter and is removed in the straining process. The loft is heated with a small oil heater to around 70 degrees. I plan on ordering a Crown Breeding Cage system from Tony for this coming breeding season. Not fancy, but it meets my needs.

Thanks guys, it's warm and dry. Jimmi, nothing but Ruby's Smoke, yes they are 2x4 ten inchs long from point to point, they work great, cheap to build, easy to replace. Wish the idea was mine but truth is I stole it from one of the kitbox's I saw posted.

You would be a good advertisement for the slogan
"Quality not Quantity" great birts obviously one family and great breeding coop. Thom I knew you would have some great ideas in there
So far got good design ideas from the kit and fly pen . Now the breeding coop is a testiment for keeping a few birds but good ones. I to love the perches ,have never seen them before makes great sense and the birds look comfortable. I also like the idea of the wire protection .I have done this as well in the past ,but put thextra wie on the outside of the window. Now i feel stupid....what a great idea to put it on the inside with the cable clips.Ilike how you bent the wire to act also as a perch.
Thom great ideas I hate to ask this of you ... but you have such great ideas I am working on the inside of my coop curently. Is it possible to show us some pics of the nestboxes? I anticpate you may have something unique ?
Thanks love your birds

canspinners, I would love to have posted a picture of my nest boxes but they are designed to disassemble in the off season. Space is a valuable resource for me so I maximize every where I can. By doing this it frees up one of my three 4x5' pens. The welded wire over the windows are for the two legged BOP but the birds like to sit on the wire and look out in the winter. My kitbox flypen is designed to be taken to the loft and cover the window so the breeders can get a little sun and fresh air. Next year I am going to add a walk in flypen to my kitbox. My wife, (you have to love this) has combined my Christmas present and my birthday into one gift, a set of eight compartment Crown Breeding Cages from Tony. Is that great or what! Thanks for all the kind words, I do appreciate them.
Donny, Hey guy, Merry Christmas!!
Thanks to everyone for the well wishs and kind words.
Merry Christmas!! Thom&Christine

I'm new to this so I'm not sure if i'm doing right. The lofts I've been seeing are very nice, small , compact and clean. I have 3 of them 2 are 8 by 8 by 8 ft tall and 1 is 8 by 16 by 10 ft tall. all have windows and traps. Maybe I went to big and thats why the birds are harder to handle??? Any help is appreciated. Ron

JUTMAN, THE SIZE OF YOUR LOFTS SOUNDS A LITTLE LARGE, R U USING THESE AS KITBOXES,BREEDING OR WHAT? THERE R ALOT OF POSTS WITH PIX OF KITBOXES AND THEIR SIZES, LOOK THROUGH PAST POST AND IT MAY HELP OUT, MOST KITBOXES MEASURE ABOUT 48"W X 48"T X 30"D, HOPES THIS HELPS YOU OUT A LITTLE.

rollernutz and jutman, welcome to the site. Jutman, sounds like you might be a little on the large side. My loft in the pictures has three compartments, each is 4'wx5'dx7'h. For me, this setup works great, the height is the most critical. With the seven foot ceiling all the perches are within reach. I keep my birds hand trained to the point that they will lie in my open hand and not try to escape. This is one, very soothing for me, and two helps with loft management. I scrape perches and the birds hardly move. Each night I go to the loft while my bride does the dishes, each bird will wait for it's turn to be handled and even look disappointed if I miss one. The point is, in my opinion, you can not have to much hands on contact, in the loft or kitbox. I do not believe this affects how they roll, but I know it makes life a lot easier with the breeders. I'm a returning newbee myself, but if I can help feel free to email me.
