the maximum amount is not known. i guesstimate about 40-60 for the average hen. the average hen last about 8-10 yrs, laying about 4-6 rounds a yr.
seems like when fed pellets they go out sooner than when fed mixed grain.a nice size open loft with plenty of sun also helps.

Thats a good question,
I herd that a bird is born with only so many eggs, they will develop from what she was born with over the years. So thats what you will get out of the hen......
IM sure someone knows the correct answer to this one.........
Thats just my guess and it sounds like a real bad one...LMAO

This sounds rather odd to me guys.In my humble opinion,a hen will lay as many eggs as her health will allow.A hen that is cared for properly and that is maintained healthy throughout will produce more (eggs)than a hen who is not(hence the importance of properly caring for the needs of your birds, specially hens who need a lot of calcium for egg production)Also not allowing birds to become stressed by breeding during the moult or any other health threatening situation!.Genealogy and health play the only role that i'm aware of in the ability of any species to reproduce.
