Wow Hardtime, I guess we are lucky to to be able to get the wheat. I had heard that the wheat crop had taken a hit this year but I did'nt know that it was this bad. I guess the saying "Lucky you live in Paradise" is true.:) ---------- Aloha, Dexter

The price has gone up artificially thanks to governmental interference; legislation was recently passed regarding using bio-fuels to replace dependence on foreign oil.
I guess farmers are growing less wheat in order to grow the crops (corn) that produce ethanol?? There is more to all this but I have not been keeping up with it.
Okay, I going back to my lofts to clean... ---------- FLY ON! Tony Chavarria

I found a bag yesterday, $15 for 60lb! Took it and felt lucky! Last bag that they said they would have until next harvest!
I know most of Oklahoma's crop was destroyed in the floods we had in the spring and early summer! Combined with that and the bio-fuel thing, its making it tough! ---------- Val

My son got his leg cast off a week early and that was the same week as the "Iron Man" wrestling tournament! He was born to wrestle and he is growing up fast! Hope you understand! ---------- Val

Tony,
the price of gasoline itself also has a direct impact on the price of feed.

23.00 for 50 lbs isn't un-heard of even for my area. Farmer central. It just depends where you go as to the local feed store that is. I have two located within 15 miles from each direction. One sells feed wheat for 18.50 and the other for 8.25 both in 50 lbs. Some times the one that sells it for 18.50 will have it priced at 7.50. While the one selling it for 8.25 will have it priced for 12.50 max. The best price I have found is straight from the local farmers for 5.00 for 150 lbs. 50.00 would get you a year's supply if you can hull it home. I know a lot of the Racing Homer guys buy their wheat from the local farmers. Hulling 1000 plus lbs home in one trip for them is a common practice. Thor

I just purchased 50lb of Wheat today and it was for $10.99. In the past I purchased Wheat from the farmers for $4.50 for 50lb but the problem was the Wheat had worms and bugs. Upon closer inspection, I found what looks like mice droppings in the Wheat. I threw away the feed and never again. They fill the bag for you from the silo right while you are waiting. The last thing I want is to purchase contaminated feed and cause havec in my loft.

Whats up Todd, Talk about violated!!! I was ready to call the guys back at the station to report a robbery!!!! I was so shocked I forgot to ask what the price of the mix was, I guess I'll find out next week when I go back. No sense worrying about it, not much we can do to change it.
Hey Clayton, Whats up!! Yeah, I've been in touch with Rick. In fact we are going to be converting his garage into a loft tomorrow. His birds are supposed to be here Jan 9th, and I believe Walt is supposed to be transfering them when they arrive in Honolulu.
Hopefully I'll get to meet you guys sometime next year. Until then, be safe and MELE KALIKIMAKA.

The only wheat I can find around here is $12.99 a 50lb. bag and it's only like 10%protien. The hen scratch is $9.00 a bag. I'm looking around to see if I can find some place around here to buy red wheat.

I am going on over to Western Ranch & Pet Supply in Vacaville, California in a few hours to buy some wheat.
Last time I was there, wheat was selling for $11.00 in a 50lb sack. I am bringing a $5.00 discount coupon to Western Ranch & Pet Supply... so this will basically lower my overall purchase price off the merchandise.
$23.00 for 50lbs of wheat does sound a bit high in price if you were to ask me.
Hmm... it must be your location.
