I recall a pearl-eyed "Champion Black Self" in an All-Roller edition of the American Pigeon Journal in the 1980's. I'm almost certain that Jerry Higgins owned this bird. I was trying to follow-up on that specific birds' offspring in order to further my research in regards to the biogenetic engineering of performing pigeons.
Now some of you long-time roller enthusiasts might have that particular copy of the APJ around just collecting dust. It would be highly appreciated if you can pull it out and share some of its contents with us hard-core roller fanciers around here (that is if you don't mind).
Hmmm...
I think Juan Navarro has that particular APJ magazine in his archives. He told me a few years ago that he had some "Special Roller Editions of the American Pigeon Journal". Maybe I will give him a call to see about his APJ Special Roller Edition archives if no one around here can assist me with INFORMATION about "Jerry Higgins 60ft Champion Black Self which appeared in the APJ over 2 decades ago".
{P.S.} Off topic here. Should be some good NFL games on television today. Dallas Cowboys finished with its best season record in franchise history after beating the Carolina Panthers by a score of 20 to 13 yesterday.
New England and the "Brady Bunch" appear unstoppable. Those Patriots have been demolishing NFL opponents this year and will be the team to watch going forward.

No... I don't have a physical picture of Jerry Higgins 60ft Champion Black Self which appeared in the APJ during the 80's. I only have a mental picture and an exceptional memory.
{P.S.} I would appreciate that R-Luna. Hook it up whenever you feel like it.
Enjoy your Sunday fellas....

The bird I think you're looking for is in the December 1979 APJ, page 45.
Funny that I was just looking at that magazine the other day.
The bird is CRS 3600-74. Winner of the Gold Band Money Fly 1974.

I wonder what the background of this bird was? Is this the same line that Jerry is still breeding?
