I found this map of Peregrine falcon migration routes. It probably shows the reason why I had never seen falcons in the Los Angeles area until they were artificially introduced in the 80s.

Hey Ray,
Here's the site..and the map address

http://rrc.boisestate.edu/Past%20Projects/Per%20Fal%20and%20Swai%20Hawk/Per%20fal%20migration%20map.htm

Efren,
There are resident falcons in Southern Cal. now because they introduced them (Audubon Society and others), and because there are so many buildings and other structures, like bridges, etc that they can nest on. Their natural nesting sites are cliffs.

Ralph,
Yeah...Wow..!! Looks like Brownsville. Texas and Miami, Florida must really get a lot of them.

Paul,
They make it out here to Hawaii too.Tom Cole our migratory bird expert out here live 2 blocks from me.I once had asked him if they flew over vast bodys of water, and he said they definetly do,certainly not in droves.

Last week my #1 kit bird"Da Champ" was taken out by a falcon, zooming off Mt.Olomana.Its weird how they get your better birds."Da Champ" actually made it back after 2 days,as I spoke of him to my girlfriend, he crashed into my second story kitchen window to tell me he was back and he needed help. She didn't see him ,but I did,he was obviously hurting.I put water out for him and he came to me,I picked him up to inspect him.He had a big gash down his back and a huge puncture up his tail end.I put some bac-o derm on him and set him up in a hospital cage as he was my very best,#1.The kind of bird you wish you had a full kit box of,and the bird you check first every time you open the kitbox door."Da Champ" blue/black badge grouse ,leader of a 26 bird, full brother sister kit, flown for 3 1/2 years in the kitbox, died gracefully in his sleep that night, after trying so hard to make it home to me,very sad. That bird is sorely missed, pure McVay-#266 stuff,a BLACK COUNTRY ROLLER of CHARACTER and DISTINCTION.....Aloha,Todd

Paul, you just gave me that bad feeling when you mentioned the Audubon Society. I still owe them $$$$ and thier the ones who released the falcons in this area? Man, they hurt my pets and now my pockets....
