Chris - The most undisputed article written about Monty's family is the one that Bruce Cooper wrote in 2002 in the NBRC bulletin. His foundation was from Bruce Cooper but Monty's family became his after 30 plus years of breeding them. He did use birds from Bruce throughout that period and some Plona stock which Bruce does not consider to be an outcross due to Bruce's line being heavy Plona background.

I went through about 50 Neibel birds which were bred by Brian Krog, who got the birds after Neibels' death. I paired the birds up for Rick Camat, who had gone up to Vancouver to buy them. The birds had really great bodies, were very strong, and had outstanding feather, but in my opinion the expression was all over the place.. Neibel bred his birds strictly on their performance, and I believe that is why their expression varied so much. Brian said that they should all be bred and then culled very hard, but in my opinion, if they would be selected on the ground for the breeding loft as well as in the air he would get a higher percentage. Since Monty Neible won more World Cups that anybody else, though, his record should speak for itself. He fed his birds an all wheat diet, I think.. a type of special red wheat that had more protien, plus some type of mineral supplements...and he never medicated..or wormer or anything.. Rick never really trained the youngsters off the pairs he got, so I didn't get to see them develop. Paul

Kopetsa - Yes there are. I know a few people who have them but they got the birds in the mid nineties so these pigeons are old. On the other hand there are others who probably have birds Monty bred in 2000-2002 as I believe he died in 2002 as this is what my memory tells me. These pigeons would not be that old.

Ya there is a guy in my club that has 7 bred by Monty at his house in LA area. He just donated a pair at the Visalia show he got them off the NBRC auction around 7 to 10 years ago.

Tim,
Mine are banded 1999 and they are still producing. I have them down right now so a friend can fly some out and add the new blood to the ones that he already had from the early 1990's.
