What do you consider a good time for your birds to come in at? It seem when I get some that come in at 2-3 months they usually don't last as they lack control. While the one's that come in at 6 months or so are more stable and have much better control.
Most of my birds start coming in right around 4-7 months (5-10+ feet) but it seems like an eternity when I'm getting hit by the bop's. I would love for them to be able to come in at 2-3 months and still possess that control that the later developers do, this way I could have my team going as well as seeing the results of my breedings. It seems somewhat difficult to see this in S. Cali as the bop's are pretty bad by my neck of the woods. What is your ideal time and when are your birds actually coming into the roll?

WAS UP BIG DOG! MOST OF MY BIRD'S COME IN ABOUT 3 TO 5 MONTH'S BUT THE ONE'S THAT COME AT 7 MONTH'S THEY HAVE BETTER CONTROL. YOU GOT TO HAVE YOU'R BIRD'S COME IN EARLY. THE BOP IS GETTING DAD DOWN HERE IN SOUTHERN CALI.

Efren, My birds usually come in about the 4 to 5 month range. I am flying some that started at 3 months, and are doing great.. I am flying 3, 2 year old birds that came in at 3 months, with no issues.
I have heard of some families coming in at 8 months and older.. That would not be the family for me, as I like to see the fruits of my labor before then.

Tell me about it Spanky. I know how bad the coopers are at your house.
Jerry, I can't agree with you anymore, I like them coming in early 3 month would be ideal, especially if they can hold it and keep it safe. I had a pair that produced young that took 9-10 months to come in. When they came in it was nice, but not loft worthy, so I got rid of that cock, because out of 4 rounds only 1 made it to this age. I just can't wait that long for them to come in.

To be honest the whole deal comes to be what family of birds you are flying.
I really don't think a bird that comes in at 2 months have less control than a bird that comes in at 8 months. I have had both type of birds and I like the ones that come in early for every reason I could think off.
I like to fly them strong and high at the beginning around 1-2 hours off flying every day. In around 1 month they get in good shape and strong.
I had birds that come in at 8 months and when they first started to come in to the roll they would get scare because they never roll before. The cock for that offspring came in to the roll after 8 moths and he was a excellent kit bird and not had the same problem.
Again it all comes to be what family of birds you are flying, as how it's with the BOP you really can't breed out of birds that come in after 6 months. Usually they will not last that long so enjoy the ones that come in early.

If you find a bird that comes in early before 4 months and is stable breed towards it. If you keep doing this you will have a family of stable birds that come in early.

Jerry,
My Jac cock produces some real deep ones. Love the way they roll. He's going on a 20' smoke hen, hopefully they'll come in early and nice. ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

Sounds like you have a good plan Efren. The depth in my birds have always been good, with the majority of them in the 20 to 30' range. I have a few flying now that are going deeper than I would like. RUUDDDYYYY is flying some birds that are full Bro/Sis to my stuff, all from a local flier here. Rudy should do well in the flys this coming season, as soon as he gets a nice group of them in the air.

Sweet bird Efren.. The ped speaks for itself, as far as who is who in the background. I see the bird was transferred to Keith.. Is he still breeding any from this line?.. What have you been breeding this bird to, and how have they turned out so far?

Thanks Jerry. I put him down on my white heat hen, had one coming in very good but lost it to the bop. Can't seem to keep them up long enough. I'm going to fly a bit different this new year. I've been flying twice to three times a day earlier this year to get them going so they can compete and lost them by the numbers. Now that I have some older ones, I'm not going to fly them when it's bad. I have his daughter that Keith breed and stocked and she was a spinner. This cock is on some of Keith's ped. Keith correct me if I'm wrong but Domino was also loaned out to Rayvon Hall. ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

Sal, I've been thinking of doing this late in 08.
Steve, I have'nt had much luck in keeping his young flying (bops) but I've seen alot of them fly at Keith's house a while back and they can work.
Thanks again Keith for him and the Many others you gifted me with. ---------- Efren Lopez SGVS

E, when i got him he was said to be a cull. but how could a cull sire birds that produce a 2nd pl classic bird a 7th an 8th a 9th and a 12th pl finishers? hhhmmm i wonder?
if you are going to put him on his daughter, you should do it in the spring and not let him raise the young.

Keith, were those stats you just mentioned, from being judged on the ground?.. If so, and if the person you got the bird from said it was a cull, then my guess would be that the person who said that was referring to its air performance, not ground looks.. A bird that is a cull in the air, with good blood, could breed a nice performer..Just my take on your post.

Misso, It was said, he was a cull because he rolled too deep and with out any speed. I saw him on the ground and chose to try him out. He worked out well for me. Efren's certified cock is down from him.

Now if this was a cull for the breeder and is a excellent sire now imagine what would one that was not a cull from the same breeder. I would go and get more out of the same person.

Rolando/Jerry,
I think you misunderstood Smoke. Birds from this cock line placed in 2nd, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 12th place in the California Classic. All judged on air performance not ground. With these results, I don't think I can go too wrong in breeding him. Hopefully I get some that can last in the air and can prove themselves.
Keith, he's going on 976 full sister this upcoming season then back to his daughter for the second part.
