What was the best bird you have ever seen fly? Whether you bred it or not. What were the qualities that you liked most about it and what family was the bird from?

Hello:

One was a Dark Ck. Self cock I strayed in bred by a guy name Greogry Rideou(spelling may not be right)outstanding spinner & a Dunn Badge cock I bred off of #520 & his 1/2 brother I bred 2 years later. A hen Bred & flown by Paul Gomez CRS 77 905....ALL WERE OUTSTANDIN SPINNERS.....Glenn

P.S. There is one more a Dark Check Mark cock bred by Ron Dent...And I Quote Paul Gomez: "Rolls Like A Tennis Ball"

There are a few more, but these are the 1st one's I thought about

Hello:

No I don't, all I have is a Cock & Hen off a bird I borrowed from Ron Several years ago. The hen was off a Grandson of one of the old Smith Cocks & a Blue Bar Marked hen bred by Hugo Blass. That Blue Bar Hen was an Outstanding pigeon but she died a number of years ago....Glenn

I have seen a few a couple at Steve's, a black and white hen with A frame roll to her that spun 20-40 feet went back to the 991 stuff, and a d-chek that was a 20-30 foot spinner from his other line he is working with, I also had a couple myself one that a good friend bred she was a red hen that would roll your socks right off! She was out of some Norwood blood. And I was lucky enough to breed a cock bird that we call the dodo cock and this guy would shrink! He was 5-60 feet and just did it with eaze! He was out of some 272 blood crossed to a Norwood hen Steve made.

I've seen a few at Keith's house. 599 brother, black pearl eye cock, 505 brother, tort cock, 442 brother blue check w/f, all real tight spinners 30-40' I think that is why Keith hit over 1100 point in a fly because he had a real outstanding group going earlier this year.

I also seen a real fast dark check at Hector C. 15-20' and one that my brother Dave breed, a 30' red self - smoker.. and finaly one that I breed out of 599 and 980 (smoke granddaughter out of 66) it was a black self, would have to be the fastest bird I've seen - at 7 months 20' blur. Lost him to the cooper.

I guess it is hard to just pick one lol, there a lot of good birds out there. Wish I could have seen them all.

I'm sure there will be alot more in the years to come.

The best bird I have ever seen was a red check cock that spun so fast he looked like a marble and appeared as if he stood still for minutes. He is a one in a lifetime bird that a person will never forget. I have seen many birds spin with high velocity but there are always those that shine light on average or just good spinners. The rare performers are the ones that are not produced everyday and are the ones that you cannot forget. Almost like a true love that a person will always remember and can recollect.

Dale,
My advice about that Rivera hen you are talking about is to Breed as many as you can out of her..But don't pump her...and DON'T FLY THE BABIES,,!! Show some patience...
Then when you finally have a lot of her blood, you can start taking chances with them.

This is the Red Mark Rivera Hen, she was a true champion in the sky and i am sure those that seen her will agree. Mark is unable to do anything with her right now because of his trucking job schedule and has lent her to me for the year to compliment my current 272 family, some heat is to be expected out of this little beauty!!!

Thanks Steve,
I also think that she should probably be bred back to the father or maybe to a full brother.
.but I would favor the father, since he is guaranteed to heve 1/2 of her genes, and the object
of the mating is to reproduce more just like her. Birds like her should be inbred to try to
copy her pattern of genes... Crossing (taking her out) will dilute her "Design".

said that cooperation is better than competition.. (Notice that I DIDN'T say cooperation
instead of competition)...
Man, that is a cute little girl too.. little small beak..
I know it's a closed show,
but if there was a way that an old rollerman could get in.. you'd see me there...
Hmmm I have an idea...

Dale,
This is from one of Pensom's writings that he did in 1968, which was the year of his death.
I think that you should probably also consider what he says about how that bird developed....
Gomez

Mating

In mating these pigeons for the best results, we have to consider the efforts of the bird during
the processes of developing into a first class spinner, and the effects on its development of the
physical and nervous system. Birds which begin their performances at an early age generally go
through a most exhausting process which often inflicts in the mind of the owner some doubt as to the
value of such a bird. In consequence of such development the pigeon does not enjoy a complete moult
in its first year. No pigeon is mature until it has completed two full moulting periods, although
this does not deny the use of young pigeons in the stock pen. A suitable mate for the above example
must be chosen from those which did not begin to develop until a much later date, or until after the
first moult. This is the only method to guarantee aerial an spinning stability. When a fancier has
established a stud of stable, high-velocity spinning pigeons, his best plan in the future will
be to choose mates as they look on the ground rather than by selecting them out of the air. Mates
should possess similar qualities, especially as regards expression of character, the only compromise
coming from bodily make-up. Since color or shades of color are closely allied to character, it is
to our advantage to give much consideration in this direction.

The basic colors are blue check, red check, and dun. Mixtures of these will give the best results.

When aerial performance, both collectively and individually, is of no primary importance,
the art of mating becomes of little or no concern. This appears to be the most popular category for
fanciers: to exercise their skill in producing birds to certain physical and colorful standards, at
the same time maintaining a decent standard of performance.
....Pensom....

What's up man?

I still have two numbers in my phone, one is your cell and the other is your shop. Are they still good numbers?

I let Dale use the hen this year because the F_____G job is kicking my ass. She has gone thur 2 molts and needed to be bred. I don't think the pic that he posted did her justice. I think either she was sitting on eggs or had just laid. She really is something to see when she was in the hen loft. To tell the truth and I know you know what I'm saying, she was put away because of what she did in the air.

It is very refreshing to hear your name Keith. Hope all is well and the family is fine.

Take care,

Mark

Richard, how have you been? Are you set up in the new home?

I spoke to London here on the list last night and it really dug up some good old thoughts and times from days gone by. It seems as we get older, the phone rings from time to time with some sad news about someone we knew from the past. I think we get caught up with life and forgot about the things that are really important to us.

Give me a shout or a e-mail again so we can make contact with each other and not bore these other guys with two old guys talking about the past.

Mark
